@vivify saidHe is a pretty smart guy, and may have even converted a few from the FOX News audience (though I don't think they'll admit it) I'd have to say though, his chances of getting the Democratic nomination are slim. The general public seems to be more accepting of lesbians than they are of gay men.
I gotta say, I was pretty impressed with his answers. No actual specifics on policy though, but quite an impressive showing. Below are some of the notable moments from that Town Hall Meeting

Why is it impressive then? Because he can say "trump is bad, vote for me even though i give you no reason to?".

@mchill saidyou have nothing to support the claim that democrats won't pick him because he is gay.

@zahlanzi saidWhat was impressive was his ability to convey general leftist/liberal views to a conservative audience in a way that was clear, with conviction, but didn't alienate conservative viewers. His answer regarding late term abortion was brilliant in that regard. In short, I think he really helped improve the outlook conservatives have on liberals. He's on enemy territory and navigated those waters pretty well.

One thing that irked me is how he danced around specific questions. He clearly had a horde of pre-rehearsed answers that he fell back on instead of laying out something concrete he would do as president. A woman asked about how policies he'd enact regarding people going through drug abuse. He had a good philosophical answer but didn't actually address the question.
This is my first time seeing Buttigieg actually speak.. As far having the right ideas, he's gets an A, but fails miserably at actually providing some kind of plan for office. This is also my problem with Kamala Harris.
Still, as far as packaging the values and ideas of liberals in an intelligent, attractive way to Fox viewers, he did quite well. But if he keeps on spitting out platitudes, I will get sick of this guy pretty quickly.
@vivify saidButtigieg is an extremely intelligent and thoughtful person.

Naturally, those qualities will doom him in a rabid primary contest.
@sh76 saidIs it "rabid" though? There hasn't been any mudslinging between the candidates thus far, and none of them are outrageous characters who say crazy things. I think Buttigieg will surprise everyone with how well he does.

He is an obviously smart man. He did something that any good teacher could. He is running for president though. Not inspirational speaker.

My point exactly.
@vivify saidYes, it hasn't been rabid so far. I'm just guessing that the far left candidates will start implicitly or explicitly calling the moderates corporate stooges, everyone will start using canned stump speeches that are loud enough to differentiate themselves in a crowded field and we'll have a good old fashioned melee (like in 2004).

But time will tell.
@sh76 saidYou can bet it will get more heated and ugly as the 2020 election approaches. It's interesting to watch normally stable people begin to act like rabid dogs when they realize they have a chance to seize the power of the Presidency.
