However, supposedly Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger may veto the legislation because he believes the issue should be left to "the voters or the courts".
WTF??? Aren't conservatives always complaining about the courts usurping the legislature's powers?? Seems that they're "flexible" ...[text shortened]... er to say they shall be treated the same. Where's that ideological consistency, right wingers??
It's obvious that the people of California are against same-sex marriage yet the Left (ie😀emocrat Party) continue to try to push it thru. They've tried the ballot ... lost. They tried the Courts ... lost. Now they use there majority in the State Legislator in an attempt to change what Californias population has already voted dowm.
They'll fail again IMO.

Originally posted by xsYou are mistaken. As stated in the article, Proposition 22 was a vote against recognizing gay marriages performed in other states and countries that was passed 5 years ago. That vote itself says nothing about whether the majority of Californians NOW or THEN supported allowing gay couples to marry inside the state of California.

It is just amazing to me that one would care whether gay people married. Will gay people marrying in California somehow make it cool to be gay? Gay marriage will overrun the nation and we will be getting gay bashed by all the more macho countries. Is that what you fear. And if marriage is only a union between a man and a woman will restaurants still be allowed to marry ketchups? In the US the great institution of marriage is already in shambles. What harm can come of letting a few more people on the ship?

Maybe it isn't just marriage - maybe the whole darned issue of property being worth more than people and people being treated like property is finally being exposed as moronic and reactionary.
Of course gay marriage exposes the property-biased roots of the institution - and that's what the right is really afraid of.... Pretty hard to pass your property on to those favoured few in your gene pool, by law, when procreation isn't the primary issue defining the institution.

sooner or later this will be a non-issue ... probably later ... if the old ballot issue that passed wasn't enough, expect a new one ... if the gay rights groups get their acts together maybe they can shout the governor down ...
It's amazing how difficult it is for some people to open their minds and simply let other people live their lives the way that is best for them.
