Debates

Cancel culture started with social media banning a sitting president and the Democrats and leftists loved it.

Then they cancelled Rosanne Barr
Then they cancelled Gina Carano from star wars
Then they cancelled Tucker Carlsen
OAN was cancelled too
Twitter cancelled thousands of conservatives

And many more examples, while the Democrats loved every second of it.

Now they whine and cry because those tactics are used against them?

Oh and by the way, free speech doesn't mean free from consequences.

Kimmel was at work. You can't just say whatever you want when you are being paid.
That's why about a thousand people have lost their jobs over their comments about Charlie Kirk.

Cancel culture started with you idiots "canceling" a brand of beer because y'all didn't like that they used a transgender in the ad.

You wanted to turn people against something because you disagreed with it.

Most people are against what Donald Trump is doing to this country, and now you can't take the heat.

Stop crying about what you started and just piss off.

Cancelling Rosanne was years before that man on a beer can fiasco.
Y'all also tried to cancel real comedy like Dave Chappelle years ago too.

Y'all invented cancel culture and y'all getting your butt whooped by it.

Y'all are losing so big lately

It’s cancel culture when the viewers decide to stop watching.

It’s fascism when the government decides what a talk show host can and can’t say.

The Trump administration is a fascist organisation and a significant portion of Americans are in approval of it. Just like before and the time before that.

Lots of people complained about cancel culture in general, right and left. It was bad culture, and did not emanate directly from government fiat. Now you're saying the problem wasn't cancel culture as a concept. You liked cancel culture but didn't like who was being cancelled. It's not ok to cancel Roseanne, but Kimmel is fine?

Kimmel was cancelled by government order, which is way different from others you describe. Kimmel wasn't cancelled he was fired by a fascist.

damn you're moronic.

the difference is, oh insufficiently read one, that the president of the United states, after having appointed Carr to his position in the FCC, personally requested Kimmel be removed. And Carr, in true mafia fashion, put the squeeze on ABC. "We can do this the easy way or the hard way" sounds like a line from a stereotypical wise guy movie

No democrat politician removed Barr and Carano they were fired after some private companies didn't want to associate with them.
Carlsen was fired by freakin Fox News (are you going to claim they are also woke or they bend to the woke horde?) after he was a major actor in costing them 700 millions in the Dominion voting machines lawsuit.

Oan is still around (i had to google it because nobody gives a crap about them)

"Oh and by the way, free speech doesn't mean free from consequences."
Free speech literally means free from consequences from the government. Which Kimmel suspension was.

conservatives complained about hustler decades ago. They tried to "cancel" Larry Flint, permanently.

conservatives complained about D&D they thought nerds were doing satanic rituals and suicides instead of just getting together and doing some math and improv for fun

conservatives complained about Eminem.
conservatives complained about video games.

So how about you clutch your pearls a bit less and don't try to educate us when cancel culture started

Do they still teach civics in school?

First amendment is about protecting an individual's speech from retaliation by the government.

First amendment is not about protecting the individual from retaliation by the "culture".

Losers, the lot of you.

Im pretty sure the companies, CEOs and others high-ranking staff that jumped on the WOKE wagon and changed their ad campaigns to please these misfits, suffered loss, their share price plummeted and they lost market share in some cases permanently. In the end many of these decision makers were fired and disgraced for their poor decision making. At least a dozen of these companies suffered and that was enough warning for the rest of the industry to learn from their mistakes.

Wikipedia says,

Inconsistency

In the United States, criticism of perceived cancel culture has often come from right-wing activists directed at the left, although it has been noted that the same right-wing activists often engage in similar tactics themselves, crusading against wokeism, Cultural Marxism, and Islamism. For example, during the Gaza war, Republicans held Congress hearings in which they accused university leaders of not doing enough to silence what they perceived as antisemitic speech on campus. Cancel culture directed at pro-Palestine activists, also known as the Palestine exception to free speech, is engaged in by some activists who present themselves as defenders of free speech. Other critics of cancel culture have also supported book bans or censorship of school curricula.

In the aftermath of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, some conservatives who had previously criticized cancel culture were pushing for the firing of people who criticized Kirk after his death. Vice President JD Vance called on Americans to report those allegedly celebrating Kirk's killing to their employers and promised to use the federal government to investigate and punish liberal organizations and donors. Adam Goldstein of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression described the shift as a form of right-wing cancel culture, noting that people were being targeted for simply quoting Kirk or failing to mourn his passing adequately. Goldstein said that "government involvement in this does inch this closer to looking like McCarthyism".

Cancel Culture started around 2016 when the left thought everything and anything was racist 🙄

Just because the right is better at it, doesn't mean anything.

Y'all shook the hornets nest first.

Taken over and changed from 'call-out culture' (ala Harvey Weinstein) and 'consequence culture' (ala the left's reaction to the heinous things said by Charlie Kirk, who should have faced the consequences of saying said heinous things), in other words, criticism of things that should be criticized, like our current march towards fascism, into 'cancel culture', the ruination of things you don't like, or people who criticize your over-the-top reactions to normal things, just because your skin is too thin to stand a joke.

It's no surprise that the morally ambiguous part of our society, the fascist right, is now trying to cancel the morally unambiguous left. No other president IN HISTORY would have demanded the cancellation of late-night talk show hosts, or even comedians who made their livings off of making fun of the president. But we now have a five-year-old in office, whose ONLY concern is for himself. Because of him, we also have an entire army of his minions, whose only goal, apparently, is to increase their Orange Jesus' wealth and power, usually by any means necessary, including the smothering of the rights of minorities, the elderly and the poor.

You can all celebrate your victory once we have NO voice in elections except to choose your Dear Leader. We can only hope that you people come to your senses and realize the Emperor has no clothes. Let's just hope it's before we lose ALL our rights. The Supreme Court is obviously on-board with Trump converting the US Constitution from the Law of the Land into his personal toilet paper.
