For me it prevents homocidal and suicidal urges, actually. More the former than the latter these days. It mellows me out, man.

Yeah, a good smoke helps me deal with those incidents.

An alternative is to walk around with a knife looking for trouble. Ok, never done that, but did carry a steel knife sharpener (2 cm round cross section at the base, about 30 cm long) when some douchebag in an SUV double parked during rush hour in front of my building, forcing the HEAVY traffic to go head to head on one lane...I asked him to move and he told me to make him.
