I can think of one example of cargo-cult thinking in popular culture: Field of Dreams. "If you build it, he will come ... " Any others?

Give them time. Eventually they will claim that they were very advanced thousands of years ago, that they taught early europeans everything they knew, and the reason they are so backward now is because all their natural resources were stolen from them. Or something like that, it's a familiar story.
