"For three decades Vice President Dick Cheney conducted a secretive, behind-closed-doors campaign to give the president virtually unlimited wartime power. Finally, in the aftermath of 9/11, the Justice Department and the White House made a number of controversial legal decisions. Orchestrated by Cheney and his lawyer David Addington, the department interpreted executive power in an expansive and extraordinary way, granting President George W. Bush the power to detain, interrogate, torture, wiretap and spy -- without congressional approval or judicial review."

Dear girl, as a grandmother of five, I must confess that you worry me. You are still young and still have many years ahead of you. You probably are still in good health, but the years take their toll on our bodies. This current abuse will catch up to you. Your memories may haunt you some day. Imagine yourself as an older person with regrets that will not go away. Youth is so fleeting.....don't waste your chance to make something good of your life.

I guess partying and getting high would be an apt way to celebrate cannabis being legalized in a particular state or country. I say one or two good nights of partying then time to get back to real work like addressing the environmental crisis.

I'd say most Republicans are unaware of the full extent of the military-industrial complex's treachery, but this is less true of Ronald Reagan and Dick Cheney. Richard Nixon was never the main conspirator in Watergate; it was the military-industrial complex. His presidency was just a symptom, not the root cause. After Watergate, the military-industrial complex's next play was to send their greatest actor, Nixon's close buddy and stalwart defender Ronald Reagan.

Eisenhower probably knew (or at least suspected) that his vice president Richard Nixon was an agent of the military-industrial complex, but of course he could never say any such thing without proof. That's why he instead referred to the military-industrial complex as an entity in his farewell speech, without naming individuals; also, it's the entity, rather than any individual, that's the root cause.

Ike probably avoided mention of the military-industrial complex until his farewell speech because he didn't want to be assassinated. This wasn't a selfish act; General Eisenhower had put his life on the line for his country and for the Allied forces many times throughout his highly distinguished military career. Rather, what Ike wanted to avoid was having Richard Nixon become president and get a boost in the polls from Ike's assassination, thus helping him in the 1960 election.

There's plenty more, but I'll stop here for now.
