FFS...the US doesn't need anymoe oil from the Gulf of Mexico or Alaska or anywhere else for that matter.
Here's an EASY way to solve your oil usage crisis.......

Yes, for what possible reason would someone with a large amount of something that is almost certain to increase in value over time want to hold onto it?

Give me a second here, Rush, because I want to share something with you," Bush said. "I am deeply concerned about a country, the United States, leaving the Middle East."
Bush said that he was "worried that rival forms of extremists will battle for power, obviously creating incredible damage if they do so; that they will topple modern governments, that they will be in a position to use oil as a tool to blackmail the West."
"People say, 'What do you mean by that?'" The president continued. "I say, 'If they control oil resources, then they pull oil off the market in order to run the price up, and they will do so unless we abandon Israel, for example, or unless we abandon allies.'"

He backpedaled on it afterwards, saying that he said at the time that the Iraq war was due to WMD and that it would just be silly for him to change his story now. (Of course, McCain has flip-flopped on a whole bunch of different issues.)

Originally posted by slimjimYou're using that fuel to do honest work. Do you use it to drive around during rush hour when it's unloaded and you're by yourself? Do you park it on the streets, taking up multiple parking spaces? Do you tailgate people at top speed when you can't stop because of the mass of your vehicle? I lost my car because some college girl was doing that to me and couldn't stop when I had to stop.

I don't have a problem with SUVs being used to carry a family of six camping, or to help people move to new apartments. But when half the vehicles on the tightly packed freeway are supersized SUVs with one person inside, and I can't park my car because one SUV, sloppily parked, takes up two spaces...I get irritated. The typical SUV owner's attitude is "F*** you, this is the land of the free, I'll drive anything I want and kiss my ass if you don't like it, I'm going to drive around in circles and burn gas just to piss you off...while I'm at it, I'll make sure I take as much parking space as I can, because I can, and because it amuses me to upset other people...In this dog eat dog world, I'm a big dog in a big car who can smash your car so don't mess with me". I am pleased that these tools are suffering for it now.
SUVs are not practical personal transport for one person in the big city. They cause huge problems for the rest of us. Not that I advocate making them illegal or anything...
Having to pay a few more bucks for stuff doesn't bother me that much if it puts pressure on the casual SUV drivers.
Your high gas prices are in part the fault of these SUV owners.

Really I see the future of the trucking companies as being slim to none. (no pun intended) I think what will probably happen is trucking will no longer be viewd as a way to make a profit, rather, it will be viewed as a mere expense. For example, a business like Krogers will have have their own trucks to transport their produce and simply write it off as a business expense.
