Who said that tyrannical communism doesn't work?
China is now the world's #1 economy. For the first time since Ulysses S. Grant, the US is no longer the #1 economy.
The transformation Obama talked about is coming to fruition.

you are as always hilarious.
it's obama's fault that china's 1 billion workforce and rising economy has finally achieved the inevitable, something that was predicted years ago.

As usual, a whodey thread which is much ado about nothing.
1. The measure looks at the purchasing power. In terms of nominal GDP China is still far behind.
2. GDP looks at total output, which obviously is larger in general for countries with larger populations. In terms of GDP per capita (IMF 2013 ranking), a measure of the health of the economy while correcting for its size, China is currently in 82nd place. Total GDP says something about global economic clout and economic power, but says little about the standard of living for an individual within the society (with is the relevant measure, one should hope).
3. Compared to the EU, the US was already behind and will remain so in the foreseeable future, especially as it is likely the EU will expand further.

Originally posted by whodeythe US needed a transformation. Obama brought the US down a peg or two and that's good for the world. He deserved the Nobel Prize moments after getting elected.

He's black damn it! He's black, he is the savior of the world.
Why do you disrespect him like that?
Originally posted by whodeyYou can believe the Chinese propaganda if you like, but China does not have a communist form of government or economics, nor did it ever have one. The Chinese model is probably best described as "state capitalism," as with the former Soviet Union.

It appears that the protests in Hong Kong seem to appear that the Chinese government is growing more tolerant. Perhaps they have learned to simply ignore public dissent rather than crush it with tanks. You know, kinda like how the US government ignores its populace even though Congress only has a 10% approval rating.
I think the Chinese are beginning to fine tune tyranny with just enough free market to make them filthy stinking rich. In fact, in many ways their economy is freer than that in the US.

Is this related to the unknowns that we do not know are unknown by any chance? Or do we not know? Or do we know that it is not?
