BEIJING - One little girl had the looks. The other had the voice.
So in a last-minute move demanded by one of China's highest officials, the two were put together for the Olympic opening ceremony, with one lip-synching "Ode to the Motherland" over the other's singing.
The real singer, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, with her chubby face and crooked baby teeth, wasn't good looking enough for the ceremony, its chief music director told state-owned Beijing Radio.
So the pigtailed Lin Miaoke, a veteran of television ads, mouthed the words with a pixie smile for a stadium of 91,000 and a worldwide TV audience. "I felt so beautiful in my red dress," the tiny 9-year-old told the China Daily newspaper.

I hope that little girl with the beautiful voice decides she doesn't like Chinese men and marries an American. China's so mean to it's girls it doesn't deserve them. Oddly, the only reason this little girl has a little influence is because so many of her Chinese sister citizens were murdered by their parents. đ
Can you imagine the music company that wants to hire you telling the national radio station that you're too ugly to show in public? What trash! And of course there's no competing media to go to when you're treated like that...

Well, the real story is that 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, with her chubby face and crooked baby teeth is lucky to even be alive. She could have just as easily been the victim of a sex-selected abortion resulting from China's twisted one-child-per-family policy.
Originally posted by AThousandYoungNot only that, but sex-selection abortions are a big problem in China, which has the largest imbalance of women to men on the planet as result. Consequently, many Chinese men will never have the opportunity to marry because of China's warped family planning program. Another side effect will be the restlessness this will generate among China's young, unmarried population. We're already seeing a rise in crime among this cohort.
It motivates the people to infanticide.

Okay. Just let them reproduce without reservations and the country's population will soar into the hundred-billions in a few generations, the economy will crash and burn, the government will die out, and there will be 9/10 of the world's population that exists without a stable home.
Would you support a one-child policy in the USA? Palestine?
Your response ignores the real concerns voiced (the one-child policy does encourage selective abortion, the Chinese population is gender-unbalanced, which can only perpetuate stereotypes of women and perhaps foster weirder ones) and goes straight to the science-fiction doomsday scenario.
The traditional Chinese remedy for overpopulation is emigration. How do you say 'Come to Africa' in Mandarin?

if there is a shortage of food, would you not introduce food rations even if it violates the citizen's right to stuff themselves?

Obesity is a sign that you've arrived. But then you're too fat to go anywhere.
"Turning suffering into obesity".
Ha ha ha.
Oh yeah, the good old days when hoarders, not to mention wreckers, were summarily executed by the NKVD ...
