Could it not be that "senior Dems and the White house" don't want to get manouvered into a situation where they are under pressure to prosecute Bush and Co? Politics in Europe is quite a sophisticated and wheels-within-wheels kind of thing (maybe even more so here in Indonesia). Surely it may all be a bit deeper and more complex than 'the person I don't like is ...[text shortened]... eople I like are telling the truth'. Is U.S. politics really as simple to dissect as that?

Ever since I heard the CIA actually tried to use psychics to obtain intelligence about the Russians (obviously, they failed) during the Cold War I've not been surprised in the slighest that they let 9/11 happen! It's a breeding nest of incompetence.
