I think it probably is too simple. It could be part of the solution to cleaning up the spill, but it doesn't solve the problem of the oil still coming out.
There's a huge difference between a bowl of water and the ocean.
The big problem is indeed shutting down the flow, it'll be interesting how that is done, and what is mandated for future drilling.
I wonder what the line pressure is coming out of that 20" pipe?
