Hmm, i didn't mention 'the worker' once, im not quite sure why you wrote that.[/b]
I don't think governments (anywhere, ever) protect anything but the chimp pack in charge.
This is not a bad thing. The secret is to pose enough 'real threat' to the buggers that they agree to include half the people all the time.
Originally posted by StarValleyWyThats simply not true. Europe is united in hating the US govornment, Bush and co, not Americans. This is not only because of the war, it is because ever since it/he came into office it/he has given a unanimous two fingers to the rest of the world at large. A nice example is the collective blaming of France for all his/it's International problems with that classic 'what have the French ever done for us' speech. Well dude, they funded the war of Independence, not to mention the Statue of Liberty are a couple of things that spring to mind. The French are a pain in the arse to everyone, not just America, it's part of their charm.
The irony is that in both cases, (ww1 and ww2) the end result seems to be a Europe united in hating the US.

Go figure. It is a good thing I'm not a sensitive and caring guy, or I might feel hurt. <snark.
Did you know that Achison insisted on including the Soviet Union in it's offer of aid under the Marshal Plan. At the instistence of mr. Achiso ...[text shortened]... same time. This would be the same today as if Paul Wolfowitz was on the payroll of Al Quaida.
Anyways, nice thread, weird start in a way tho ...

Sure makes me feel safe.
Pol Pot. Worst monster ever? Anyways, Carter might have been put off by Vietnam, that could/should have been a UN job to get in there and stop it.
Originally posted by KneverKnightTell that to the brave Aussies and US service men who died trying to contain communism. And the two million (estimated) who have been killed in Viet Nam directly or on the open seas trying to escape the wonderful rule of the Commies. Re-education is a wonderful thing. Too bad the silly academics and propagandists (sorry) er... "media persons" of Europe and America are not forced to experience it first hand.

There have been *some* international peacekeeping attempts that were a success, lets just hope that the trend continues.
Originally posted by KneverKnightYou are wrong about the "killing fields". Entirely. They happened exactly and immediately because the US and Australia lost the war in Viet Nam. The Vietnamese Commies then invaded and preserved their choice of predators. Pol Pot emerged.

But, What is a few million dead? When you fight a war to "contain and defeat communism"... and lose. Poo Poo Occurs. To normalize a bumper sticker from the time.
And Carter also signed a direct assent of allowing the take over and subsequent slaughter of a million africans by Edi Amin in Africa. But Carter is great! Who am I to doubt that he won the Nobel Peace Prize?! What right have I to wonder if abandoning the people of Iran to religious nuts was the right thing to do? Carter is great. Simple. As a matter of fact... he was most great at being extremely simple.
Originally posted by StarValleyWyIf that's true, then you only have Nixon to blame.

If that's true, then you only have Nixon to blame.
Because the Lefty Democrats used the Watergate to invalidate the agreement we signed to end the Viet Nam war. They announced a year later that they would not honor it because of the "terrible betrayal of Richard Nixon". The Commies (rightly) took this as a sign to invade the south. They had held off for a full year following our retreat. They pounced. And the rest is history.
One of the terrible things about Viet Nam was that the Paris accords would have held. If the Democrats would not have repudiated them in favor of political leverage. But... that is their story. Forever.
Your bringing Nixon into it just shows you don't read history. The same year Nixon took power, he reduced the US forces from 521,000 to 350,000. Then the second year to 134,000. Then his third to 85,000 then in the election year to 174,000.
By the time of the Paris accords, we were down to 21,000 troops on the ground.
Does that sound like a "Nixon" war to you or an effort to get out?
Just read history. Don't listen to propaganda. It ain't good for your health.
