So after all the protests of police killing unarmed men who were NOT violent (like Floyd, Garner, Scott, etc. ), you somehow think anyone would have a problem with cops using guns in self-defense?

This is a dumb post.

Not a dumb post at all, @vivify. It presents a quagmire.

That cop has been beaten to a pulp twice in a year.
Maybe he should learn how to fight?
Anyone can learn, it just takes time.

Or maybe he is some pervert masochist?
Either way, cops should be in pairs to help each other and watch each other with bodycams.

It's unfortunate the cop was beaten but the suspect was eventually arrested and will face trial and probable punishment for his actions.

There was no reason for the cop to use deadly force as it was not being used against him.

Can't argue with that.

But some beatings result in death so how do you decide if the suspect is going too far?

(Shrug) The law doesn't allow you to shoot someone every time you get in a fight.

If a cop or ANYONE is being beaten down by a superior force they have every right to stop the attack with lethal force.

That's not the law anywhere in the US. Losing a fight doesn't automatically justify the use of deadly force.

Here's an explanation of North Carolina deadly force law:

"The use of deadly force is only permissible where one is in imminent danger of death or serious injury. Otherwise, the force (self-defense) must be on par with the force of the attack. For instance, proper self-defense answers a punch with a punch rather than a shot for a punch. Similarly you can’t take out a knife and stab someone who has slapped you. Neither excessive or deadly force can be used during a mild attack or fight."

The cop had every right to repel the attack with what ever means available under that law. You seem to have a magic ball that can foresee the future.

If I recall correctly, Zimmerman claimed both that A) Martin was pounding his head on the concrete; and B) That Martin tried to grab his gun (which Zimmerman claimed he forgot he had).

Those are both pretty implausible but apparently not to the jury, at least for them to reject them beyond a reasonable doubt.

No, he didn't. He was not in "imminent danger of death or serious injury” by any objective standard (it's unclear he even thought he was; he didn't, after all, draw his gun).

The arguments you and others are making would allow anyone in a fight to shoot dead the other person in every single case. That is clearly not the law and you should stop claiming it is.
