I was reading an article on the BBC about Quantum entanglement (a whole different subject for whole different thread) and it got me thinking:

There’s a decline in traditional religion in the West. And there seems to be ever growing fanatical beliefs in far fetched conspiracy theories. Is there a connection? Could it be that there is a group of people with an inherent nee ...[text shortened]... iracy theories fill a gap left by a lack of religion?

Or maybe there’s no link between any of it?
Baked in, embedded in our DNA, is a fundamental fear of the unknown. It is part of our survival instincts. This fear underlies almost all phobias, anxieties and neuroticism. Therefore, we have a primal urge to seek answers.

People are attracted to anyone with answers. Religion has answers. It actually does not matter if those answers are true or not. Trump has answers. He's unflinching and unyielding and he is never wrong. He is the chosen one. That's why he's the only President to ever have a flag honoring him flown the same level as the American flag.

Conspiracy theories are a version of the fundamental fear of the unknown. When JFK was shot, it was inconceivable to many people that this was even possible. How could one person change our world in such a huge way in a millisecond?

God? Trump? Conspiracy? Simulation theory?
