yes, a lot of folk have never heard of Somaliland - they rely too much on the controlled news sources - i am not insinuating that as a comment upon yourself.

What does the "corrupt" UN have to do with this? It's up to nations themselves to recognize states, not up to the UN. The vast majority of nations doesn't give a toss about what the UN thinks when considering whether or not to recognize a state.
It is my own opinion that the UN have effectively and continually defecated apon Somaliland - as with Rwanda too and countless other places.
I titled the thread so for my own amusement - I ADMIT IT - the onus was on trying to inform at least one other person of the country's existence and in that hope I have succeeded.
edit)I disagree. refusal by the un to acknowledge a state as "real" does indeed affect it's economic viability.
edit2) we can see this evidenced by the current begging at the door of the IMF and WTO after 10 years of surviving exclusion.
