I'll try to contain my giddiness, but it's hard.
Corzine to win is now trading at 15 (out of 100) on intrade.
Christie leads by 10 with 36% reporting; not insurmountable, but big.
Nate Silver seems to even be conceding that it looks grim for ol' John.
I hope he has his seatbelt on. Looks like he might be headed for a crash.
Edit: Christie to win just hit 90 on intrade!!

Race tightening. Lead down to 5. Corzine up to 20 on Intrade.
This is more exciting than the World Series.
Originally posted by sh76I have heard that even if the Dems win, the mere fact that the race is close is mind blowing simply because it is a traditional Dem strong hold. What we see in Virginia is the Republicans sweeping into power once again. So how does this bode for Obama and company? He has not even been in power for more than a minute and the country is running the other way.
Some preliminary results in NJ:
Morris County: Christie +26; 2008 result: McCain + 9
Cape May County: Christie +17; 2008 result: McCain + 9
Middlesex County: Christie +2; 2008 Result: Obama +21
Cumberland County: Corzine +8; 2008 Result: Obama +21
Still looking pretty good.

I can dream, can't I?
BTW: I just can't believe the Republicans won in Jersey. I think it is the 7th sign.

I was hoping there'd be an unexpected election day surge for the independent candidate similar to what happened when Jesse Ventura became governor in Minnesota. Instead, there was an unexpected election day wimp-out as Daggett got less than half of what the polls had indicated.
Originally posted by MelanerpesIndependents can win weird states like Minnesota (I like MN, but just saying... any state that can elect Al franken to anything has got to be a little weird). New Jersey is the ultimate establishment state. It will snow in Miami in July before an independent wins a statewide New Jersey race.

Meanwhile a Democrat has won in a New York House district the Republicans have held since the Civil War days, which is riotously amusing to me. And it all happened thanks to Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck!
Also the Republicans had a shot at winning a House seat in California, and not only did they fail, the seat is being taken by a more progressive Democrat than the previous incumbent.
I look forward to the impending repetition across the country of the Tea-bagger instigated fiasco of New York House District 23. Moderate Republicans in "safe" Republican House districts will probably lose their seats to Dems thanks to attacks on their right flank by theocratic nutters backing third-party wackos.
Also, wouldn't it be more reasonable to say that Corzine lost because he was being wracked by insurmountable scandals and corruption charges? And isn't Virginia a purple state that can be expected to bounce back and forth between Dems and "Other" like a ping-pong ball?
I don't think I see much of a reflection on Obama in any of these election results -- whether they be Dem wins or losses.
