That's semantics. COVID just means disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. Anyone who has the sniffles from SARS-CoV-2 has COVID. We may not call it that in the future, though.

One scientist who said SARS2 was genetically engineered early on claimed genetically engineered viruses are unstable in the long term and would likely degrade into a mostly harmless virus over time. I don't remember the name of that scientist, but I do remember reading that he said that in the article.
The odds of a natural/zoonotic origin of SARS2 is about 1 in 36.
The fact is that many people are getting sick and a smaller proportion of those sick people are dying.
If the government would educate people about the need to raise vitamin d levels and having your vitamin d levels tested, the number of deaths would drop even more.
Doctors should be busy being proactive in making the population healthier, instead of being dispensers of pharm drugs.
