It's certainly not perfect (it has an obvious political leaning), but it does a decent job showing the democrats resisting additional regularion on Fanie and Freddie. For those who refuse to beleive that the democrats have no blame for F&F, be sure to watch the very end.

The problem the video points out is obvious to the most casual observer.

However, our friends on the liberal side of the aisle aren't interested in things like truth or results. Instead, they'd rather persist in the lies and false accusations and play politics with things that really matter, like the housing and financial markets. I sure hope there are a lot of foreclosures on the streets where Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barney Frank live.

I haven't watched the video, but Congress does deserve a hefty share of the blame for the failure of Fannie and Freddie.

"Pressured to Take on Risk, Fannie Hit a Tipping Point"

Setting up corporations is not something the US government is very good at anyway because, as happened in this case, the government cannot resist interferring with the way they are run. If government people were good at business -- surprise -- they'd be in business!

Pressuring FM/FM to make bad loans to increase home ownership was foolish and inappropriate. 'Course hindsight is 20-20, but Congress has to take the blame either way.

Ok, and who controlled congress for the 12 years prior to the last 2?

I have a link posted to a New York Times article in another thread that points to pressure from the Clinton administration and shareholders for Fannie to change their lending requirement. It wasn't Congress that pushed them to chage the credit requirements. It was Congress who failed reign them in.

If one is a socialist, are they also a traitor?

The Republicans have controlled Congress since 1995, until recently*:

Congress (Years) Tot Dem Rep Other
103rd(1993-1995) 435 258 176 Independent (1)
104th(1995-1997) 435 204 230 Independent (1)
105th(1997-1999) 435 206 228 Independent (1)
106th(1999-2001) 435 211 223 Independent (1)
107th(2001-2003) 435 212 221 Independents (2)
108th(2003-2005) 435 204 229 Independent (1)
109th(2005-2007) 435 202 232 Independent (1)

110th(2007-2009) 435 233 202 Independent (0)

Given that the House has the "power of the purse", it is kind of astonishing that deficit spending and dubious financial arrrangements has gone rampant when Republicans -- the self-styled "party of fiscal responsibility" -- has been in control of those purse-strings!

My personal feeling is that Republicans are not true Lincoln-esque, Yankee conservatives anymore. The party has morphed into the American Party of God (or 'Hezbollah' in Arabic), a party promising only "no more abortions" and "continuing struggle against the Islamic infidel."

Majority is one thing. They never had a Supermajority so they could have never ramrodded any legislation through if a vote fell strictly on party lines.
