@Cliff-Mashburn saidThe average time for a murder case, for example, to go to trial in the US is 1 to 2 years, depending on the case's complexity.
Pretty horrifying what the Biden Admin did to the Jan 6 people they took hostage and tortured for almost two years. before giving them a trial.

When you have hundreds of thugs to process all at once, 2 years seems pretty quick.
@Soothfast saidThey kept them in jail for two years with no bail for minor offenses and no legal representation.

@Soothfast saidThat's because the penny pinchers on the Right don't want to pay taxes to fund the justice system.

Christopher Aeneadas:
Depending on the crime someone can only be held in custody for up to 4 days (murder) before being charged.
Having been charged a preliminary hearing must be held as quickly as the court docket allows. Unless the defendant objects a preliminary hearing must be held within 14 days of charging.
It is customary and expected that when asked for a date to begin the trial, a prosecutor should always answer “We are prepared to proceed to trial immediately.”
In theory this means that if the defendant does not object a court date should be set no later than 18 days after the arrest. Court dockets are busy but this should not take more than a few months.
If the defendant does not object.
Nearly all defendants request additional time to prepare their case. They voluntarily waive their right to a speedy trial.
So name this person. I'll look it up. Let’s see if I am right in assuming that it is his defense council and not the state dragging their feet.

Bruce Spielbauer:
The only Jan. 6 defendants who are still in jail and have not yet received their day in court are those defendants who are stalling, and still filing legal motions to try to delay their own trial.
There have been 1158 other defendants who chose not to do that. 1158 others, who have already been sentenced to either a jail — or to a federal prison cell. A few, who have been sentenced to 22 and even 24 years in a federal prison, and who have now been in a federal prison now, for more than a year.
The defendants that you speak of, are doing their best to stall, and to try to prolong the days before their court case finally, finally goes to trial. They all have a Constitutional Right to a speedy trial — and the prosecutors would be delighted if that happened, today.
But those defendants also have the legal right to use their attorneys to try to use their best tricks to avoid a speedy trial…. By filing legal motion, after legal motion, after legal motion, ad nauseam — until they finally run out of silly excuses for those legal motions.

@Cliff-Mashburn saidVance Boelter last registered to vote in 2004...as a Republican.
So shooter was a disgruntled Democrat!
Vance Boelter was appointed by Gov. Walz to the Governor's Workforce Development Board. Every state is required to create such a board. The board is intended to promote career services and training opportunities. It is not a partisan board, or political in any way. It is purely advisory in nature, and has no real authority.
In fact, by law, the majority of the board is required to be made up of representatives of businesses. The representatives must be an employee of a business, a business owner, or an executive. Boelter was appointed to the board because he's an employee of a private security company. It would be that company that would have recommended Boelter to Gov. Walz. Boelter was not appointed to the board on account of any particular party affiliation.
The lies flying around on the fascist end of the political spectrum that Boelter is a Democrat, just because he happened to be appointed to an advisory board by a Democratic governor, is the usual crap that fascists do: assassinate the truth, assassinate reality.
You are so very sad, little man.
@Cliff-Mashburn saidYou mean stopping people who attacked police with bear spray and spears made of flag poles, all that peaceful political dialog?
Where was your concern for due process when Biden did this to the Jan6 people?

And what did the orange blob do? PARDON 1500 of them calling them PATRIOTS.
They were TRAITORS not patriots.
But of course you figure they were patriots BECAUSE your lord Trump SAID they were patriots.
WE KNOW DIFFERENT.

@Mott-The-Hoople saidYour EXTREME grief is noted.
Cnn reporting it was a mostly peaceful shooting
And it is “democrat”, not democratic…your ignorance abounds
BTW TRAITOR, they had NAMES. Melissa Hortman. and MARK Hortman, both assassinated But OF COURSE, she is a democrat and therefore is a legitimate target of the hate police.
@Mott-The-Hoople saidWhat do you mean "mostly a peaceful shooting"? Because only the legislators were harmed?

The suspect in the killing of Minnesota legislator is a minister who evangelized in Africa, surely he should know that "though shalt not kill"?
@congruent saidJust like mostly peaceful protest…damn you people are dense 🙄
