""But I do want to make something clear because it's important to me as a human that you understand it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don't think there's anything funny about it. … Nor was my intent to blame any specific group for the actions of what was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. That was really the opposite of the point I was tyring to make, but i understand that to some it felt ill-timed or unclear or maybe both. For those who think I did point a finger, I get why you're upset - if the situation was reversed, there's a good chance I'd feel the same way.""
no1: Clarification, but no apology.
Some praise for the widow:
"There was a moment over the weekend, a very beautiful moment, I don’t know if you saw this on Sunday: Erica Kirk forgave the man who shot her husband. She forgave him. That is an example we should follow [chokes up]. If you believe in the teachings of Jesus, as I do, there it was. That's it.
A selfless act of grace, forgiveness from a grieving widow, and it touched me deeply. And it touches many. If there's anything we should take from this tragedy to carry forward, I hope it can be that, and not this. "

Obviously that won't appease the MAGA maniacs, but I thought he hit the right notes while making a robust defense of free speech.

@no1marauder saidHe did make light of the murder. He did at least insinuate that the assassin was MAGA, a clear lie. But he won't apologize for people being too dumb to get his nuance. But he should be forgiven nonetheless because that's what good Christians like Jimmy and Erika do.

Yeah right. What a worm. I think I'll just return to not ever thinking about Jimmy Kimmel now.
@Sleepyguy saidThe governor of Utah "prayed that the shooter was not one of us".... before they had any information.

That is the ridiculousness Kimmel was joking about. MAGA scrambling to pin the murder on leftists when no one knew anything. Y'all didn't get the joke because you were too busy combing the Internet for evidence that he had ties to antifa.
@no1marauder saidI did catch the monologue on youtube and I thought he did a great job.

But apparently Trump has a few more tantrums to throw before this is over.

@wildgrass saidDid you watch that press conference? I think not. If you had, you would know the context of that statement by Governor Cox, the words said before and after that were left out by whatever left wing rag you get your "information" from, much like Jimmy Kimmel I suppose. You're just regurgitating falsehoods.
The governor of Utah "prayed that the shooter was not one of us".... before they had any information.

The "us" Cox was referring to was all Utahns:
"I want to thank my fellow Utahns. Uh, you know, this... Bad stuff happens. And for 33 hours I was praying that if this had to happen here that it wouldn't be one of us, that somebody drove from another state, or somebody came from another country. Sadly that prayer was not answered the way I hoped for. Just because I thought it would make it easier on us if we could just say, "Hey, we don't do that here." And indeed, Utah is a special place. We lead the nation in charitable giving. We lead the nation in service every year. But it did happen here, and it was one of us. But I want you to look at how Utahns reacted the last two nights. There was no rioting. There was no looting. There were no cars set on fire. There was no violence. There were vigils, and prayers, and people coming together to share their humanity. And that, ladies and gentlemen, I believe is the answer to this."
His whole statement was about turning away from rage, having conversations and understanding in lieu of violence. Maybe you should go watch it and consider why you lefties are the only one's who got the "joke" based on a lie.
@Sleepyguy saidYah i watched.

It's never a good idea to try to explain a joke. It was actually a set up for a joke. It was ill timed and imprecise, but It was not a lie. There had clearly been an uncomfortable rush by MAGA etc. to pin the shooters ideology as something other than them, although no one knew. That was the line. No one knew. We still don't really know. The MAGA response to the joke actually proves him correct because y'all couldn't even handle the idea that the shooter might not have been a leftist extremist. Had to get him fired for that.

I believe he did a great job without giving an actual apology, and standing up for the right for people to have free speech that the present Government in the U.S. is trying to stop, which is quite obvious for all to see.

@wildgrass saidEvery one who had ever paid attention to what Charlie Kirk was trying to do knew instantly it was a leftist who shot him. He'd been going on to college campuses for years trying to have a dialog with people who would lie and smear him as a hateful racist, Nazi, fascist etc. It always seemed dangerous, and so when it finally happened we all knew "Yep, the bastards finally got him." We knew, and we were right.

@Sleepyguy saidRight wingers instantly "know" things without any evidence and then find it impossible to change their "knowing" no matter what the actual facts are.

Kimmel was certainly correct in saying the MAGA crowd was intent on scoring political points from the murder. It's aftermath has led to persecuting thousands for expressing their opinion of Kirk including attempts to force them out of their jobs for constitutionally protected speech.
Kirk, like so many others, wanted to espouse white nationalist ideas based on racist stereotypes without being called, accurately, a racist. He wanted to play the reasonable debater while calling for doctors who performed gender affirming treatments to face Nuremberg type tribunals. One can lament his murder while telling the truth about his extremist and hate filled views.
@no1marauder saidno amount of lying is going to change the fact it had been reported by two sources, the fbi and doj, before kimmels airing, the shooter was a leftist queer living with his lover, a trans.

@Sleepyguy saidIts not that you were right, but that you had to be right. That's what made you so mad at Kimmel.

But this guy could just as well be a basement dweller nihilist or anarchist trying to sow chaos, or had a psychotic break. Or anything under the sun. You don't know but you have to be right or it'll break your binary worldview.
@Mott-The-Hoople saidKimmel comment didn't expressly make any assertion as to his political leanings (which remain unclear; he never even voted) only that MAGA was desperate to score political points if he wasn't one of them. That statement is true.
no amount of lying is going to change the fact it had been reported by two sources, the fbi and doj, before kimmels airing, the shooter was a leftist queer living with his lover, a trans.
Statements by this administration are worthless even assuming Kimmel heard them at the time of his taping which has not been shown.
@wildgrass saidWe didn't "have" to be right. We just were. It was so obviously likely that he was killed for his beliefs that it made your side's early attempts to find some way to blame a right winger ridiculous. I forget which talking head on CNN began speculating that the shot came from some right winger firing a gun in celebration. I mean come on.
Its not that you were right, but that you had to be right. That's what made you so mad at Kimmel.

And so it turns out we were right, as was obvious. TR killed Charlie Kirk for his beliefs, and Charlie Kirk's beliefs are shared by many on the right, and so the cheering on of that murder by some people on the left (teachers, doctors etc.) made it clear they would cheer on the killing of the rest of us.
