What are these people thinking? Don't they realize that by celebrating English culture, they will make all the Muslims who've immigrated to England and all the college professors and teachers who believe that there is nothing to celebrate about being "English," upset?

Originally posted by kyueYou poor boy, let me enlighten you. The reason the heathen rage is because Englanders celebrating their Englanderness is chauvinism at its most vulgar: The English have something to celebrate (their history and culture), while the poor immigrant or refugee had to crawl out of some backward, Third World, medieval hell hole before arriving on England's shores. It's bad form to celebrate one's culture (only if it’s a Western culture being celebrated), or at least that's what the college professors and other cultural elites tell us.

The only reason it's been pushed on in the last few years is to get people into pubs buying beer & getting lashed on a free day off work (unless you work in a pub of course), and it's been mainly pub chains that have promoted it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for an extra day off work 😉 and I always support England in Football, Rugby, Cricket etc (not much to celebrate though!) but haven't we English always been slightly reserved? So why should we change the habit of a lifetime?
And if it is such 'bad form' to celebrate ones culture (provided it's western of course) just why is St Patricks Day such a global party? Hell, I bet more non Irish than Irish celebrate that, I know I have!
It's not down to 'Immigrant' political correctness, no matter how much you would like it to be, don't blame them for something you obviously have no idea about...
