@jimm619
Could you (and sonhouse, and quite a few of you) at least summarise the article, so we at least can understand what you're aiming at without
having to give these parasite sites a bit more advertising money? It would be different if you linked to the original site, but come on, Yahoo?
@shallow-blue saidYahoo is a bona fide news site.

It's an Associated Press story.
I don't summarize because I don't
care to editorialize, I'm just tossing up topics
for comment....If ya' don't read it, don't comment.

@jimm619 saidI don't think we should ever support protesters who feel justified in breaking the law.

But to me there is a huge double standard on the liberal end who constantly and justifiably criticize January 6th and the Canadian truckers but never discuss Black Lives matters looting or 1960s styles taking over campus building with guns.
In the end your belief that your talking point needs to be taken seriously does not justify ignoring the law and to look the other way when you agree with the talking point but not when you don't is a double standard,

@quackquack saidThat's because there's nothing to discuss. Random deviants don't represent a whole movement. However the Jan 6th protestors *specifically intended* to riot.

Some were caught with weapons, including:

Stun guns, pepper spray, baseball bats and flagpoles wielded as clubs. pepper spray, and yes, a few were arrested carrying guns.
That's the difference between random delinquents from mostly peaceful protestors and Trump's insurrectionists. BLM aims for nonviolent demonstrations while the Jan 6th mob were told "let's have trial by combat" before storming the Capitol.

@vivify saidYour interpretation of the facts is a double standard. There were certainly people on January 6th who wanted to protest peacefully and not storm the capital just as there are certain people in BLM who wanted to protest peacefully. But there were elements associated with both there were up to no good and both should be condemned. When you excuse one and not the other you are inconsistent.

@quackquack saidBLM was about murder,

Jan/6th was about sedition.
@quackquack saidIf BLM protested began with a lawyer for the President of the United States saying "let's have trial by combat", followed a violent insurrection...would you conclude this was meant to be anything but a riot?

And if those same BLM protestors were found with weapons, including guns, and *initiated* beating up cops, while breaking into a federal building....would you still defend them like you're doing for the Jan 6th protestors?
The insurrectionists were not random troublemakers tarnishing a "peaceful" protestors. That mob was there for that specific purpose. When is the last time over 700 people were arrested for a "peaceful protest"?

@quackquack saidIt’s not a double standard it’s a question of numbers. On the one hand you have a handful of middle class people throwing a tantrum over a public health restriction and who expect not to be treated as the criminals they are.

On the other you have huge swarms of desperate, impoverished people enraged at the class warfare that has been directed at them and who very much expect to go to jail if they get caught but there are so many of them that the overloaded justice system cannot hold them.
Send both sides to jail and we will see who keeps protesting. The truckers have too much to lose to keep this up.

@athousandyoung saidIm not OK with blocking roads with trucks, storming capitols or looting business during a pandemic and I think that those who are trying to excuse or distinguish the left clearly have a double standard. Neither the sincerity of your belief nor your personal overestimation of the morality of your cause excuses you from obeying the laws of the land.
