Does anyone out there properly understand the issue facing the Palestinians of the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in Jerusalem, and other Palestinian districts in Israel? If so can you provide some background information. Now I understand that this matter raises peoples emotions, so if possible just post the facts without the anti-Israel comments.
What I have found out is the following:
- There are still some settlements with properties abandoned since 1948
- There are some Palestinian homes which are built on land owned by Jews, where rent is due but remain unpaid.
- Of course there is also the discrimination which Palestinians face where the Jews just dont want them in their neighbourhood.

I think the Jews have a right to defend themselves but that whole world war 2 BS about placing Jews on someone else's land was a bad idea.
The desert is huge and they could have been placed anywhere and then they could visit the holy sites.
Also...if those Jews were so concerned about the so called holy land then why did they leave in the first place and go to Europe and be exterminated by Hitler?
Well that is in the past and so Israel as we know it has a right to defend themselves.
@very-musty saidFor an atheist, this is hard to swallow but the bible predicts these things in some crystal clear language. That God would chase out the Jews from Palestine [Romans did that], punish them [Hitler and others did that], and bring them back in [the British did that] at some point to rebuild and they will be protected [Americans doing that]. There is even something in the bible about punishment for indigenous Palestinians who oppose the Jews. Its weird but its all coming to pass. But they are there now and cannot be removed.

So the issue is what wrongs are they committing against the Palestinians, regarding these settlements.

If you want the Israeli side, try this: https://www.nationalreview.com/2021/05/the-truth-about-the-sheikh-jarrah-eviction/
The bottom line is Israel's annexation of East Jerusalem is not legal under international law and thus their courts have no jurisdiction over property there even if the underlying facts are as the National Review article states them.
IF you want the short version, some Palestinians owned some land in Israel but were driven out and their land seized after the 1948 war. They went to Jordan as refugees. Jordan had occupied East Jerusalem and seized some lands there that had belonged to Jews. They made an agreement with the Palestinian refugees to settle them on that land. After the 1967 war, Israel seized East Jerusalem. Now the prior Jewish owners want to evict the Palestinians who are living on the land.
Clear as mud.
@no1marauder

Ah I see.
So the U.N. and the nations that are a part of the U.N. have rules.
I did not know that 🤔

But merely saying you don't recognize international law as binding on you doesn't always get you a pass as these guys found out: https://www.historytoday.com/archive/nazis-executed-nuremberg
@no1marauder
I think countries not in the U.N. can do whatever they want.
Would you let your neighbors tell you what you can and can't do with your house?
No you wouldn't.
But I guess Israel may be in the wrong but they haven't invaded...yet.
@very-musty saidwell it seems the UN has rules but the problem is they selective enforce them.
