Elected Government vs the Public Service

Debates

Just wondering if any of you understand the difference between the elected government vs the public service.

The elected government is a few hundred congressmen and senators who are elected by the citizens of the country.

The public service is made up of thousands of public servants who are hired by public servant managers and Directors.

The elected government tells the public service what policies and regulations to implement. If the elected government has a bunch of new polices and regulations it wants implemented, sometimes it has to hire more public servants to get that done. Sometimes a new elected government will decide they don't want to keep some of the programs/polices of the previous elected government so they cancel those programs and lay off/fire the public servants that were running that program/policy.

Each election, the 2 political parties put out a "platform" telling the voters what they intend on telling the public service to do if they are elected.

Very rarely does the elected government though EVER bother to look into whether the public service is running those programs/policies effectively. This current elected government though is doing that by creating the DOGE.

What the DOGE is finding is incredible waste, inefficiency, and general incompetency that has lead to billions and billions of dollars wasted each year. Worse yet, if they hadn't done this review, the waste would have continued every year even at a time when the US is basically bankrupt.

You really owe it to yourself to look past the headlines of the biased media on both sides and look into what this review is actually finding.

It's astonishing.

This is completely false. We have (or more accurately, we had) a network of Inspectors General who oversee waste and fraud in agencies. They work as "auditors" of defense, VA, labor, HHS, etc. While they all freely admit that there's more to be done, they were effective at identifying, investigating, arresting, and clawing back misuse of federal funds.

Trump fired 17 of them, and then brought in DOGE. DOGE has not found anything that qualifies as fraud or abuse. Trump replaced an effective watch dog with incompetency, some say in order to hide corruption.

Do you have a link where people can have a look at what these auditors or network of inspectors, who you claim were effective, found [prior to Trump of course], when searching for .. identifying, investigating, arresting, and clawing back misuse of federal funds. ?

I bet there is nothing. That is why 17 got fired.

This is because, other than an occasional article about one or two rogue employees running a scam or something, there was little to no "misuse of Federal funds". 99% of Federal employees are dedicated, trustworthy civil servants of the People.

Unlike your guy in office now.

Trump saying there was is more gaslighting. Trying to validate his malfeasance in office.

most staff work hard. Upper Managers, not so much. They mostly just try to find ways to get themselves promoted by currying favours from other managers. The waste comes from managers not overseeing the things they are paid to oversee.

As for the auditors, they find less than 10% of the things they should and the things they find almost never get resolved or result in someone being fired for incompetence. They just get shuffled to some "special project" until someone else hires them.
