I think we all need to stop complaining about the mods for these reasons
1. There have been so many recent threads criticizing the moderators that they have become pointless. If the mods were going to change their 'evil' ways because of these posts, don't you think they would have already done so. All of these useless threads are clogging up the debate forum. This annoys me because I'd rather hear two idiots throwing insults back and forth in a so called 'religious debate' than hear more complaining about the mods. What are you trying to accomplish with these posts?
2. Personally, I feel that the quality of moderating has been relatively good. There have been post and threads deleted without much cause, I agree. But the vast majority of the stuff deleted was either just an insult match, rather than a debate, or offensive to someone. Now, I'm not saying, I think that anything that anyone could find offensive shouldn't be allowed. People do not have the right not to be offended. But this is the way our society is trending, and I'm sure the moderators were instructed to act following this trend and deleting anything offensive. So we shouldn't blame the moderators for that. As for the argument that this is a violation of free speech; stop and think about this reasonably for a second. Do you really think that your constitutional rights are being violated This is an online chess site. The moderators work is nothing more than the censorship you'd find in almost any other publically displayed work. If you want to claim this is a violation of a constitution right and go to court, fine. But I'm not going to be sharing the court expenses with you. I can see you want a bit more leniency, understandable. But wouldn't we all like to watch shows with the swears not bleeped out on cable at prime time? Most people would either like, that or be indifferent to it. But those few who are offended ruin it for everyone. I'm not saying there are people like that on this site, just that in our culture there are.
3. The moderators are volunteers. I can see you would rather not have them, but we have to. So who wants to be a moderator? No volunteers? Really, see I thought people would be jumping to take this job. We need to be thanking these people, not insulting them, for putting their time into this. It's like the war in Iraq. Even if you're not in favor of it and wish we weren't in there, you still thank the brave soldiers. It's not their fault, they were just following orders. It may seem I'm pointing the blame at Russ (and likening to president Bush probably doesn't make him feel too good either). I'm not. I'm pointing the blame at Russ's boss, society. We are the people that pay him, so he has to behave in a way that doesn't offended anyone (so were all president Bush. Horrraaay!).
This isn't going to be a popular post, and I know that. I hope that no one takes this personally and resorts to insults, as I'm sure will happen. This is not intended to single anyone out for posting on this topic in the past, it's attempting to prevent it in the future. And I'm just trying to make you realize that you don't or shouldn't really be this angry at the moderators. If you read what I've written, and have a legitimate flaw in my argument, please post it. But if you're just going to dismiss what I've written before you even read, go off and post it somewhere else and keep living in your own world of misdirected anger.

I think that 'Mods suck' posts are pointless, but constructively
criticizing them is not. However, it has been my experience that
most moderators are impervious to criticism and continue to
delete posts as they personally see fit, not according to some
logical policy.
2. Personally, I feel that the quality of moderating has been relatively good. There have been post and threads deleted without much cause, I agree.
What disappoints me is that these pointless deletions have not
substantially diminished. There are still moderators with agendas;
if they see posts they don't like (irrespective of their 'offensiveness'😉,
they get deleted, even posts with double-digit recommendations.
3. The moderators are volunteers. I can see you would rather not have them, but we have to. So who wants to be a moderator? No volunteers? [/b]
I have volunteered multiple times to be a moderator. I am sure
that I am not picked because I am deemed a trouble maker, even
though I doubt that I've had many of my posts hidden (although,
to my great chagrin, people never receive any notification that their
posts were deleted, a practice which I find absurd). I know several
other people who, like me, would be happy to chip in and lend a hand
but aren't picked because of a lack of popularity.

Thanks, if there were more people like you, I wouldn't had to spend an hour writing this stupid thread. I agree that the random deletions don't make sense. I wish they'd give their reasoning, but as I'm sure they are using some, calling them stupid is stupid itself. Just because people don't understand something they call it stupid. The same logic is used above when I call that practice (of calling the mods stupid) stupid; it's because I don't understand it. It doesn't make sense.
I don't think the mods are perfect but, 1. Our complaining hasn't and won't do anything 2. They're just doing what they're told. They probably think that a lot of the stuff that they have to delete is stupid to delete too. 3. Not very many people, including me, want their job. If you're volunteering for the job to try to make a difference, then by all means, bitch about them if you want to (Nemesio, this wasn't in responce to you, you weren't complaining). But if you're just sitting at your computer venting steam in the forums instead of really trying to change what you're mad about, I have no sympathy.
The mods often miss literary/artistic merit, but this is a chess site and everybody knows chess players are a bunch of whining, complaining nerds with no life whatsoever, deeply resentful that their main talents will never make them money, score points with chicks or bring them fame, unlike hockey players.

I'm not prone to simply saying : xyz is stupid without proof. I've written
many a treatise on why the moderation system then was flawed and most
of what I said then largely applies now.
As for your assumption that 'they are using some [reason]' I do not believe
that is consistently true, given that the mistakes are not diminishing in
my estimation.

I'm not sure this is quite fair; I mean, there are a number of people
who spend a good deal of time on their posts. When these get deleted
for no good reason (recommendations nonewithstanding), I can understand
their irritation and their need to vent. Does it help the situation? Probably
not, but it can be cathartic, I suppose.

Originally posted by ark13You want to know why people complain about the mods? I find this bizarre and wanted to post a sarcastic response but I've tried three times and I am getting RobboModded. If his off-topic post is a problem MOD it and I won't have to respond, but to leave it and make it sacrosant is total BS.

EDIIT: Phlabby has told me there was some glitch and I have been able to make my post as long as I didn't hit "Reply and Quote". It seems odd that I was able to reply to other posts today using "Reply and Quote" just not this one, but I'll take Phlabby's word that I was not moderated. So "Nevermind".
