Anybody hear about this? Special Agent John Dobson wants to write a book about Operation Fast and Furious. The ATF has denied his request to write a book. The ATF's reasoning - "the book will have a negative impact on the morale of the Phoenix division, and will have a detrimental effect on the relations between the ATF and the DEA and the FBI".
So, now, people's feelings are more important than the First Amendment?
EDIT: Oops, I meant censored.

Originally posted by quackquackHe signed, as I did, a document that requires him to seek approval of all relevant departments to publish a book, as well as allowing the government to edit the material to its satisfaction. However, that requirement is based upon the need to protect national security information - not to make sure that government employees feel good.

Originally posted by sasquatch672There is already a great book by Katie Pavlich on Fast and Furious, which every American ought to read. Dobson ought to be allowed to write the book, but I don't see how morale in BATF gets any lower by covering up malfeasance and treachery, leading to the deaths of field agents.

By the way, I still can't find a Hershtal FN 5.7 to buy. How were they walking those across the border to Mexican banditos?
Originally posted by normbenignI have to believe those interagency hoops games result in some bloody noses already. Besides - these guys are all cleared. Are we really supposed to believe that anybody in FBI or DEA who wanted to know the truth doesn't already? They're going to learn something from a book?

Originally posted by sasquatch672I think the morale issue was among the boots. But even they know the truth.
