So we would need a good source. Nonoe of the publications gives one. The CBC that has been cited as original source claims that the "Ontarion Human Rights Tribunal" has fined the city and the mayor.

However if I look up that https://tribunalsontario.ca/en/

I find neither a judical binding mandate by any elected body, nor a mentioning of the case.

Somehow it seems that there is a lot of hot air produced....

"A tiny Canadian town has been fined $10,000 for refusing to fly an LGBT+ rainbow flag during Pride month.

Emo, which has a population of around 1,300 people, was ruled to have violated the Ontario human rights code when it refused to declare June as Pride month and failed to fly an LGBT+ flag, and its officials have been ordered to complete human rights training.

The ruling noted that it had failed to fly an “LGBTQ2 rainbow flag” – despite the fact that the town does not even have an official flag pole, the National Post reports.

Borderland Pride, an “2SLGBTQIA+ Pride organisation”, brought a complaint before the human rights tribunal of Ontario in 2020 when Emo refused to mark the month.

The proposal was put before the town’s council in May of that year, where it was defeated by a vote of three to two.

In a recording of the meeting, Harold McQuaker, the town’s mayor, said: “There’s no flag being flown for the other side of the coin… there’s no flags being flown for the straight people.”

The tribunal found that the remark was “demeaning and disparaging” and “therefore constituted discrimination” under the human rights code.

ACanadian town is facing a fine of $10,000 for refusing to participate in Pride Month and fly the "LGBTQ2 rainbow flag" outside its municipal building.

The town of Emo, Ontario, which has a population of about 1,300 and is situated near the border with Minnesota, was found to have violated the Ontario Human Rights Code by the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario for refusing to proclaim June as Pride Month, according to a report from the National Post.
