I've just had a conversation with one of my esteemed collueagues about flu jabs, and I thought it irresponsible of companies offering them to their young and healthy employees, when in past years, there have been vaccine shortages affecting the ill and elderly.
What are everyone's thoughts on this. I'd be especially interested if there was anyone out there with experience in the matter.

At any rate, we don't know if all the ill and elderly have had their flu jabs before the surplus comes to the companies. It's a question of how the health system allocates and delivers the flu jabs. Why shouldn't companies offer jabs if the essential jabs are covered?
The reason companies offer flu jabs is so that employees don't get sick and have to stay at home.
I walked past a surgery last year (after we had been offered flu jabs at work), and the sign outside said something like "due to the global flu vaccine shortage, we will only be able to provide jabs to the following" it then listed a very exlcusive group, ie HIV+, old and ill, ill children etc.
So clearly all the vital jabs hadn't been allocated to the people needing them.

Er, flu shots are given to healthy people to prevent them catching the flu. Giving sick people a flu shot would be like shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted.
If you don't agree with me right now I will send you the Abuse Owl!

How come Abuse Owl's ears are so screwed up? Did Momma Owl take crack while she was...uhhh...laying eggs?!
Feel free to use Abuse Owl in your own posts. I will, especially if Stang turns up again.
Also I have been thinking about a t-shirt with Abuse Owl on it, what do you think?

Would you like to elaborate, as I am running out of arguments...
...although I strongly believe in the theory that repeating a statement often enough makes it true, in this case i could do with something new.
