I do not think the twenty year war in Afghanistan nor the Vietnam war or the Korean war were driven by a desire to spread democracy and help people. It was driven by international corporations that make billions off war. In 1961 Eisenhower dubbed it "The Military Industrial Complex" and cautioned Americans to beware of these bedfellows.

But...the middle East does have terrorists and they hate the western world and they have actually done terrorist acts on North American soil so kicking their ass for 20 years was worth it.
