Come on mods... do something.
The name calling and insults in here make adult debate a joke.
The same people, same egos, same arguements, same insults.
Every thread seems to be taken over by the commie haters and the wafflers.
Some just patronise one then the other to collect recs.
The forums would be used by a lot more people if the behaviour in here was better controlled .. by the mods if necessary.

On the other hand, excessive moderation necessarily reduces participation. Either a user gets enough posts modded to leave in disgust, or they get banned outright. Others who agree may leave with them.
If you catch people switching sides to collect recs, why not call them on it?

We have a number of teens in the site that should be encouraged to loin in the politic threads. Some have been called A H's (real words mod'd) and other unnecessary dirty names. The amount of liberal bashing by borderline ultra right wing posts in also a concern... these people have to grow up and post sensible arguements rather than dirty insulting comment all the time!
Even so called Christian parents (according to their profiles) jump in with "scr' w you" and "don't f.. with us" Hardly breakfast table with the children is it?
A good point about the threads is that they help self evaluation. I thought I was conservative but hopefully I'm a lot closer to the centre than I thought.
Banter is great fun but keep the language clean and maybe if your tongue is in your cheek... say so... Some may not understand your humour.
If people read some of the longer threads before posting, they'd see the arguements they post have been done to death.

In my experience, teens are some of the worst name-callers out there. Do you really think none of them are in on this?
Can you honestly say that only liberals get bashed here? I've seen plenty of bashing of both conservatives and liberals, christians and athiests, etc. etc.
What will you do to ensure that 'sensible arguments' are used? There's no objective way to define 'sensible', because the term is completely subjective.
This is not a kid's site. Membership is forbidden to U/13 (although I have no idea how this is enforced!). That means the content need not be kept G-rated, but PG-13. I'm tired of seeing every public forum reduced to a G-rated area because there might be kiddies around.

That said, I also agree with the others here that increased moderation is not the answer. We should be free to express ourselves, and almost any censorship should come from the community itself. Cut them off. If they are acting like misbehaved children then ground them. Don't correct them. Don't attack them. For heaven's sake, don't rec them! Just continue on as if they do not exist.
If they get too carried away, then Russ or somebody with proper authority will eventually take care of 'em.
