Funding for R&D in the US

From a Republican senator:

We should follow two steps: One, policymakers must sufficiently fund federal investment in basic and applied science research as part of the annual congressional appropriations process. The United States’ biotechnology innovators, our electronics wizards and our military leaders uniformly point to the importance of a strong science-and-technology ecosystem that starts with the university.... this research is often driven by curiousity, not profit.

Second, these innovations need to find pathways out of the labs and into boardrooms and factories. It is not enough for smart scientists and researchers to discover new solutions in the U.S. We need to make sure they develop them and bring them to market here, too. Our policymakers should lock arms with the science-and-technology dreamers and doers across the country — from Silicon Valley to the Silicon Prairie — and recognize that basic research isn’t a federal handout to help sustain academia.

So, why is this guy writing Op-Eds that lay out the crucial importance of R&D and at the same time remaining supportive of a president who has cut R&D funding and plans to cut 40% of existing budgets? Please explain it to me like I'm 5.

Things change hourly now. Plus, know that he may tell the world what he wants us to think, throwing our competitors off, they subsequently bite, giving him an advantage to pull an end-around, and up-end the whole stack of cards, that Trump has been building. So, this is part of the old crack an egg to make an omelette gambit..
Surely he has advisors who are telling him how his moves will affect the process, the innovators, the research. Luckily he is smart, he can weigh it all, keep your eye on the ball, like he does 18 hrs a day….even while playing golf, which keeps him healthy.
You do want him to be healthy, since he is all we have at the moment. And the only citizen in our country that the heads of state will listen to, whether they like him or not.
I predict something will come out of China in a couple of days watch that stock market.

Things changing hourly is very bad for business. The current cancer drugs on the market took 10+ years to develop.

I was speaking of negotiations. You should read up on that art, as your group culture of the Forum will be amazed with its magic, starting tomorrow, and you will want to keep up, you will want to shine!
Oh, be developing your contrarians senses as well.
Sonhouse and I are doing PM as he advises me on when to jump back in to stocks. The DOW is small potatoes, we are getting the dark horses.🤑

R&D doesn't really care. They need consistent funding sources.

Tax dollars are raised by government. Government should be spending that revenue to protect all our rights equally. 😆

Defense, justice, maintaining public space, education in the law, last resort charity - all these expenditures can be traced back to rights that we recognize and want to see protected.

I'm open to arguments that funding basic R&D research protects our rights. So let's hear them. 😆

You must have been thinking of Trump 1. In Trump V2 there IS NOBODY to advise.
Jennine Pirro? Kash Patel? Hegseth? Pamila Bondi? They are afraid to even LOOK like they are about to criticize Trump.

They ALL have their lips superglued to Trumps ass and you know that full well.
There is NOBODY to say the emperor has no clothes,
Like this so called trade deal with UK. THOSE dudes were busy stroking Trump's ego and so he actually THINKS he made a deal but there IS no deal there, we already have a 10% trade SURPLUS with UK so that was just another show, Trump THINKING he is a big hero making a worthless deal.

NOBODY there to tell him he is full of shhite.
And OF COURSE you would never say a WORD criticizing your Lord Trump, just like the rest of the professional ass kissers he surrounds himself with.
This is the government of ass kissers. Nothing more.

Meanwhile Trump gets ever deeper over his head and he has not the slightest CLUE as to what he is doing and the consequences for ALL OF US.
But that is EXACTLY how a sociopath runs, ZERO empathy for people, TOTALLY into what he THINKS is power when in fact he is one weak son of a bitch.

His waffling on his own policies, Tariffs on China 145%. Well no, he backed down on that to 'only' 80%. When in fact even TEN PERCENT will wreck havoc on our economy but you AND Trump are WAY too stupid to EVER figure that out till it is WAY too late and we are in another depression or something approaching that dire outcome. Recession, massive loss of jobs because Trump is too STUPID to understand economics 101.

And YOU? You will just go, we need to endure the pain just for a little while, and then MAGIC will happen and we will bounce back stronger than ever.
RIGHT? Too bad you glaze over when a post has over two paragraphs.

Everyone ELSE knows what I said and I am really talking to them because you are incapable or actually thinking ANYTHING through using your own brain.

What will your incredible comeback be? YEAH, WELL LOOK AT HOW BIDEN SCREWED UP THE COUNTRY......
Let's hear your rebuttal to my post. I will be OBVIOUSLY DEVESTATED by your INCREDIBLE INTELLECT.

You could watch some congressional committees questioning, outlining the fraud and wast. Things like using the money for personal use like remodeling their house, buying things, and things not related to r&d like other departments. This has been going on for a very long time, It might help r&d to actually have more money getting rid of that part.

So criminals have to be persecuted.

A no-brainer.
R&D money is for R&D, and results of state-sponsored research should not be privatized.

Criticize Trump? Did you ever once criticize Biden, any time? Ever? Your 13 brothers killed in Afghanistan? I could go along with about 1400 things to criticize Biden about. But you never did. So don’t come at us about how we should be criticizing Trump. That is my subject on this post. Isn’t it refreshing to not read 29 different things in one post. Your posts are begging to be glossed over..
I suggest that you take my advice regarding chatting at a table at Starbucks over a cup of coffee. Would you have ever said all of the above in Starbucks as I , and the people around us,stared in amazement?

Starbucks is a crime against coffee. It's a sweetie shop.

What’ pray tell does that mean? And was selecting a specific group (college students with loans to pay off) treating everyone equally? My son still has a car loan to pay off.

You are worse than sonhouse . He never said anything bad about Biden,… This was very bad about Biden, yet you never said anything about that.,,,, That it was unequal treatment, and now you are saying the government should treat everyone equally.
I am feeling disdain!

I agree. I never go there. Capitalists! Making us pay $8!

So you are clearly incapable of even understanding what I said much less a reasoned response. You can't even understand the showboading of the UK deal.

Actually it was unclear in howfar your contribution was about R&D and its financing.
