Well done that man.

I guess there could be a debate about if this sort of donation justifies the monopoly his company (strives?) to have over the PC market... anyone got an opinion? I don't know enough to comment myself, but would be interested in others views.

No it does not justify his monopoly. If I was worth $40 billion then I'd give $750 million to charity as well. He deserves no special accolades for his attempts to assuage his guilty conscience for being a pedatory robber baron in the first place. Far from giving him a pat on the back, I call for him to be sent to the guillotine. He and the other Forbes top 100 as well. Let a new reign of terror begin with Bill Gates' head in a basket.

$750 million is a sizeable amount of cash, but in comparison, it's like me donating $100. He's just doing his meagre, unimpressive part. Being the richest cracker-ass in the world, a show of true charity would be to donate half of his company's yearly volumous profits to the relief effort. And then to buy each displaced victim a condo in the suburbs. Then, maybe, I would respect his efforts.

OK, Fred, I have a question for you. Bill Gates donated - this time - a little over 1% of his total worth. You know that he gave a $40 billion gift five years ago, right? My other question is this - how much of the money you've made has gone to charity this year? And the last?
Forbes lists Bill Gates' net worth as being $46.6 billion. I have to conclude that your figure of a $40 billion gift on his part is wrong. Absurd, actually.

Darvlay - this money did not go to Tsunami appeal it is to wipe out infant disease across the world.

IN response to many posts...

Agreed it is only 1% of his income this is not much, and yes maybe more company profit should go to charity (not just specific to Microsoft that point).

If I work out what 1% of my salary each year is, this matches about what I donate to charity through donations, work charity days, sponsorship of others events, and of course the lottery chunk etc (whoopee for me eh?).

If everyone did this would there be much more reaching charities? I guess so, but not everyone can afford 1% of their salary even.

It is a difficult, and no doubt emotive point.

I'm more interested in RBHill's response to this: Bill Gates has done more for humanity than you ever have, but he says he's never seen evidence of the existence of God. Does that mean he's not saved, but you are?
Look I am not bragging that I am saved, I don't want anyone to go to hell but lots will go there and lots are already there. Bill Gates doesn't understand the Bible that is why he says there is no God. The evidence is in Chrsit that there is a God. Once Again works can't save him, if that was true then Christ died for nothing.

Thanks for the compliment. God Bless you darvlay, I shall pray for you more often. I would rather be a Christ-Lover then an enemy of Christ.
