Exactly how do you think he got it? Did he Rob it from you in the night? Did he send out henchmen to Rob banks? I don't think so.

Every dollar he has earned was given to him voluntary in exchange for some goods or service. That is why he is entitled to that money - we gave it to him in the first place, in exchange for what he gave us. What more justification does he need? If we didn't want him to have that much money, we should not have given it to him in the first place, and just done without the goods that he had to offer.

You say you earn about $40,000 per year. What more justification do need for earning that, other than that is what your employer pays you for your labor, an exchange you both voluntary agree upon?

I say Bill gates earned his money, he should keep it. and you helped him earn it by buying Windows, if you dont him to get rich, dont buy his stuff, Besides I bet his Tax bracket is over 50%, hes supporting most of us, and hes giving alot to charities.

but yes I do know there are ppl out there that would like some of his money, I know if he split his money to everyone in my state, every person would get like $5,000 dollers. but never the less, Its his, he he earned it, and he was pretty smart to be able to get it.

Bill Gates should be ashamed of himself. He could save millions of lives he could use his money and his business skills to boost the african econnomie or a part of it and still have enough money so that he and his children will never have to work again. He could be a hero. But what does he do...he lets it all rot away on a bank acound while people are dying of hunger and the madness of G. Bush.

No, Sasquatch, only you are wrong. You claimed Bill Gates gave $40 billion to charity. The actual figure is $28,291,699,101, which means you were off by nearly $12 billion. I, on the other hand, made no claim as to the amount Bill Gates gave to charity. I merely claimed that your figure was wrong. And it was. So you will see, my dear Sasquatch, that it is only you who are wrong.

Rwingett, LOTCB - you guys are a couple of smacked asses.
I would gladly give away all my fortune to charity if I had any fortune...
As for the pc I am using: i need if for my education. Yes you need an education to be able to really help.
Im also not nearly as old as bill gates is so maybe you shoud ask me when im his age.
Even at my age im sure I have done more for charity then him giving away his stolen money.

Bill Gates made his fortune in a way that has promoted the development in a lot of places.

PCs have been an integral part of research everywhere, and from MS-Dos to the latest Windows, his programs (flawed as they may be) helped to set a worldwide standard in computing that helped a lot in cross-country relations.

Not only he didn't steal it, he helped world development by it. The idea that if he wins, someone loses is wrong. It's a win-win situation, because nobody is forced to buy.

The companies that have bought his products won, and he won with them. Actually, since his products are everywhere, we can say that the most of the world won with his products.

And I'm not even discussing the importance of PCs nowadays in the worldwide awareness of human rights violations, or tragedies like the tsunami.

I see now that my mistake was in trying to extrapolate a reasonable system of economic reform from my initial polemic, and then being required to jump back and forth between the two. Therefore (for the purposes of this thread) I will abandon all such gradualist attempts and reinstate my initial call for a reign of terror as modified below:

Day one: Bill Gates and the rest of the Forbes wealthiest 100 get sent to the guillotine. Their fortunes are expropriated and distributed amongst the poorest nations of the world. Bill Gates has a net worth of $48 billion. Coincidentally, Sierra Leone (which I have used in a previous example) has a population of 4.8 million. This rounds off nicely to $10,000 for every man, woman, and child in the country. Quite a princely sum for a country with a per capita GNP of $130. Or if you want to spread his fortune out amongst all of Africa, it would equal $61.24 for every single one of the 783.8 million people on the continent. And that's just Bill Gates. That's how vast his fortune is. The entire Forbes top 100 would raise that amount far higher.

Day two: Dr. Scribbles, Brother Kirk, and Sasquatch are all sent to the guillotine. There is no reason or justification for this. It would just amuse me.

Day three: A day of rest.

Day four: All guillotines are on standby and awaiting orders.

The secondary reason for this reign of terror is to alleviate poverty in third world countries. It should be strongly stressed, however, that the primary reason is solely to exact revenge upon the bloated plutocrats of the oppressive capitalist system. A system that allows one man to amass a fortune of $48 billion in a world where hundreds of millions live in poverty or on the brink of starvation is a system that can no longer be tolerated. It is time to storm the Bastille and sharpen the guillotines.

There, that's much more satisfying than dickering over progressive tax rates.

To be fair, sasquatch did invite RBH to voice his opinion on this thread....

....anyway, so what if Bill Gates "only" donated $750mill - it's better than no donation at all.
