The president is most definitely surrounded by smart and capable people. They are very clever, very manipulative and very powerful, yes, but I don't see this class of people working for an idiot. George W. Bush could not have gotten to where he is today if he was that big of a moron.

And for the record, it is quite ok to put the court jester on the throne and let smart people run the country. That way everyone is looking at the jester and not at the real rulers pulling the strings.

Whether a puppet or not, President Bush has been described as one of the most politically powerful men in this political generation. Have you seen how he consistently made congress dance around on his little strings during his presidency? He is extremely powerful and competent.
Now, it is my belief that the president's PR people are actually trying to make the president look dumb. They want him to stand in front of the country and make everybody think that he is a common man, a person who uses "normal" phrases and who sometimes bumbles over his speeches because he is just like everybody else.
It looks like you guys fell for it, if I am right of course.
