does this mean that the global warming skeptics have gotten their way yet again?
i don't know how you can say "yet again", apparently the world's foremost hurricane expert can't get grants.

No, I just can't be bothered going round in circles with Zeeb again.

no ... never thwarted ... just amused at your shortsightedness and stupidity.

i find fossil fuel-overuse/global-warming almost identical to that of smoking tobacco.

people know it is not healthy ... a little later the scientists catch up ... some idiots continue to rant that smoking is ok ... and ... the companies making money splash their propaganda through the media ... and the truth of the situation slowly unfolds as we knew it would.

eventually the truth comes out, unfortunately many lives are unnecessarily lost.

global environmental change is a serious problem and must be addressed ASAP regardless of what the idiots say.

Depends, some people are pretty old, mid to late thirties. Some are lucky and get it earlier. I've been prudent over the last 18 months, published and done some really excellent research, done some teaching at 1st year level (the class got the best results in the last 5 years) and have brought in 1 PhD student already and another one in the works. So, I am young, but I am performing pretty well (although, of course, I could be doing better). Thankfully for me, the University is repositioning itself at the moment, since funding is going more towards research, and it seems to be paying off for me.

Chill out over global warming
By David Harsanyi

"You'll often hear the left lecture about the importance of dissent in a free society.

Why not give it a whirl?

Start by challenging global warming hysteria next time you're at a LoDo cocktail party and see what happens.

Admittedly, I possess virtually no expertise in science. That puts me in exactly the same position as most dogmatic environmentalists who want to craft public policy around global warming fears.

The only inconvenient truth about global warming, contends Colorado State University's Bill Gray, is that a genuine debate has never actually taken place. Hundreds of scientists, many of them prominent in the field, agree.

[edit; indeed, if you'd read my post concisely you'd note that the contribution the farmers make to research is too small to support the levels of investment that is put into the research that keeps farming, NZ's #1 industry, at the forefront worldwide
. NZ companies, such as Fonterra, are m ...[text shortened]... the future of the economy. No way can 4, 5, 6 or 8 million people exist on farming alone.]
Other companies have had their growth stunted so that Fontera can make bundles, you're really making sense now....guffaw.

the problem with talking heads is that eventually they wind down and you have to insert the key again. but it's amusing to see them all chattering in unison. yadayadayada, bla bla bla. must be comforting, too amongst themselves, rather like a school of fish or a sheepherd. nice and warm ...

When my parents were younger they were told by the pollies; "Give us this money now (OR ELSE), we'll look after it, and when you're ready to retire, (errr not when you're ready actually, we're going to set an abitrary age), well, when you reach that age, we're going to look after you, we're going to give it back."
"So how's that? What do you think?"
"errr, actually we don't care what you think, you didn't sign any contract the way you would with a private retirement scheme."
"If you get sick, you can go on a die while you wait waiting list."

Now my folks are retiring age, we find that the pollies that made the promises are gone and the money has gone too, they receive a meagre benefit that is definitely not enough to live on.

In WajomaWorld, hehe, that's funny but let's call it FreeWorld, my parents would have been able to hold onto that money and set their own priorities, one option might have been to pay off the mortgage faster reducing the amount of interest having to be paid, surely a better option to prepare for retirement....or they may have squandered it in a world trip...you see in FreeWorld that's their business, not yours.
