What problems are you referring to compared to the problems that CFC's had? Lower efficiency, but then the argon used in most refrigirators today is less efficient than the ammonia which was originally used, but no one seems to be complaining.

If I leave a fridge open, it uses energy to remove heat from it's interior and pumps it to its exterior. Thus no change in temperature in a perfect system if the fridge is left open. But no system is perfect, so the inefficencies actually add to the temperature. Air conditioners work on the same principle.
