It will have to pass 3 billion to be a majority vote.

Since when did global leader start listening to what people want?

Since when did they not know what people want?

When are they going to do something about all the other world problems such as malaria, poverty, aids etc?

It's not what the people want, it's what the people need. Humanity will be better off if it tries harder to live on an equilibrium with nature as opposed to consuming resources as fast as it can, as the worlds resources are finite. Malaria, poverty and AIDS will be the least of our problems when there's already mass starvation due to the fact we're not controlling our population growth.

i reckon that this sort of petition thing is a palliative which makes you feel like youre doing something, but not actually achieving anything.
you might achieve more by using less energy, by the way did you know that suicide on a compost heap is the most environmentally friendly act humanly possible. im not suggesting anything to you personally of course.

me smells a circular argument?
surely the more people die of aids and other disease the better for the environment?????? (ref. last message above too)

Population growth is not yet a problem and there is no guarantee that it ever will be. The worlds finite resources are not yet exhausted. I agree that it is a problem that should be looked at, but not nearly as urgently as poverty and disease.
Keep in mind that reducing poverty reduces population growth as well.

I would tell them to quit politicizing science.

Yes good idea... sign the petition, then sit down and watch the documentary "The Great Global Warming Swindle" to let you know you've just wasted your time (http://www.channel4.com/science/microsites/G/great_global_warming_swindle/index.html).

In a few years' time we'll look back on this madness and wonder how so many could be so fooled. But then I guess that's nothing new... there have always been 'disasters' about to happen, like another Ice Age, nuclear winter, the Jupiter Effect, the China Syndrome, acid rain, the Doomsday Asteroid, the Greenhouse Effect, ozone depletion, African killer bees, Y2K, SARS, anthrax, global warming, climate change and bird flu. We are running out of oil and water and soon there will be standing room only. The end is always nigh.

Bollocks!
