Well, who saw this coming?
Now that the Grand Old Party has fomented hatred of teachers stemming from teaching the philosophical construct of structural racism taught in elementary school, we see why.
Republicans want to rewrite history books. The party that insists they are still limited government libertarian-leaning folk want institutionalized education. Not only do they want politicians deciding what to teach kids, they also want to teach kids things that never happened.
The bill, written by Republicans in Virginia, is banning the teaching of "divisive concepts". It describes a non-existent presidential debate between Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. The bill demands the teaching of “the fundamental moral, political and intellectual foundations of the American experiment in self-government”.
Really? We want politicians writing history books? We want teachers to teach morality, and to avoid divisive concepts? Morality itself is divisive. We're supposed to think these are conservative ideas?
Loony.
When liberal groups stop asking to be treated as equals and not be given preferences for jobs or college admissions because of race then I will take their ideas on race seriously. Until then I will look it at for what it is a power grab where benefits are allocated based on skin color and not credentials.
@wildgrass saidAmazing isn't it.

Happens over, and over,
the party preaches small government but
want to stick their nose where it doesn't belong.
Including, but not limited to, our bedrooms, our voting booths
and now our schools.
Not true? Why did they resist same sex marriage?
Why do they want to limit a woman's right to choose?
Why are they instituting new voting laws where no problem exists?
Seems truly hypocritical to applaud the Court's rejection of
vaccine mandates yet complain of BIDEN's handling of COVID.
@quackquack saidIs this an argument for equality?

@wildgrass saidThank you.

The danger of this bill is in the vagueness of "divisive concepts". This leaves the bill open to interpretation, allowing any topic these lawmakers don't like to be removed from classrooms.
@vivify saidRight. In fact, they did attempt a more precise legal definition of 'divisive concept' in a similar bill that already passed in New Hampshire. I think they eventually removed the term, but the bill still remains "indecipherable and internally contradictory".
Thank you.

How do conservatives not see that politicizing the profession of teaching is a bad idea?

Maybe the kids should be taught more math and science based subjects instead of some irrelevant history from almost 200 years ago?
American kids were ranked 27th in the world for high-school ability the last time I checked. Probably worse now.
Opinionated classes is for after high school.
Or maybe we could teach systemic racism right after we teach systemic criminality?
"One of the biggest cross-national tests is the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which every three years measures reading ability, math and science literacy and other key skills among 15-year-olds in dozens of developed and developing countries. The most recent PISA results, from 2015, placed the U.S. an unimpressive 38th out of 71 countries in math and 24th in science. Among the 35 members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which sponsors the PISA initiative, the U.S. ranked 30th in math and 19th in science."

TRUMP's prevarications.......

Did anyone see Gov. Younkin's mealy mouthed
explanation of CRT on FOX NEWS?
@athousandyoung saidActually its liberals who are constantly calling objective tests biased because minorities do worse when it is obvious that the test simply just measures skill level.

@wildgrass - "The bill, written by Republicans in Virginia, is banning the teaching of "divisive concepts". It describes a non-existent presidential debate between Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass."
Firstly, democrats *are* teaching divisive concepts, as is consistent with the democrat philosophy of today.
CRT teaches black kids to hate white kids and white kids to hate themselves.
These "teachings" are infused with Marxist philosophy and princi[ples.

The Lincoln Douglas debates of course were taught when I was in school, this is actual history.
and a lot can be learned by those debates, as Douglas' predictions proved to be correct.
But what is to be learned is, so what...? freedom had to came at the high price, but it had to come.
CRT sucks, that is the bottom line.,
