Look, I don't know what happened to our society but we seemed to have forgotten one basic principle here.
YOU DON'T GET THE FLU SHOT TO PROTECT YOURSELF!!
You get the flu shot because you are protecting everyone else FROM YOU!!
I don't know where we got this selfish idea about the flu shot being there to protect ourselves. What an arrogant way of looking at things.
By getting the shot you help to slow/stop the spread of the virus throughout society. You do your own small part to contribute to the greater whole.
When did we lose this perspective???????????????
Get it if you're in a risk group like young or very old or have a weakened immune system like from a transplant or recent infections that weakened it, or if you have other complications with your health (especially respiratory) you may be high-risk.
Spray vs injection doesn't really sound like a big difference.
The point is if you're in a high-risk group you want your immune system to be one of the ones that gets the heads up of what the virus will more-or-less look like so it can neutralize the pathogens more quickly & efficiently if/when exposed to the real one.
If you're between 25 and 50 and are healthy, you can probably handle the swine flue with proper care, hydration, rest, etc as with any flue.

Okay, so someone between 25 and 50 doesn't get the flu shot and gets sick with the flu. Then that person spreads it to a "high-risk" person and that high risk person dies.
Hmm, maybe that 25-50 person should have had the flu shot wouldn't you say???
You don't get the flu shot to protect yourself from the flu....YOU GET THE FLU SHOT TO PROTECT EVERYONE ELSE FROM YOU!!!!!!
YOU GOT THAT???

You get it for BOTH reasons. To protect yourself AND to protect others.

Originally posted by uzlessWell isn't it really a round about thought process though. You get the vaccine, meaning you get the virus, to protect yourself from getting it again. By not getting the virus again and being immune to it, you won't be the one passing it on to other people. And, in theory, if everyone gets the vaccine or the virus and becomes immune then there's nothing to worry about. Really the question of "Am i getting a vaccine for me or society" is one that doesn't need to be so complicated.

What I keep thinking is, what's the big fuss over swine flu? It's nothing more or less dangerous than the normal flu if im not mistaken.
