I have a certain fondness for Hackney, especially the area around the Lea, so I was distraught to hear that parts of Hackney Marshes are to be converted into parking space for the 2012 Olympic Village. Apparently, when it comes to handling the people on the ground, New Labour have learnt a lot from their counterparts in Beijing; or am I just a sentimental fool?
Originally posted by Bosse de NageSentimental, I'm afraid. Hackney's a bomb site and the sooner it's turned into anything at all, the better. If the price is the loss of some marshland which these days is frequented by pikeys and drug addicts as often as nature's creatures anyway; so be it.

The part they are making into parking spaces is near the new facilities that are being built.
The effect on the local nature will be limited, as thoses areas in general are not protected spaces
But I guess thats one of the drawback of Olympic development
