I went to withdraw some cash out of the cash machine today...even though I had money in my account it wouldn't let me take any. I went into the bank to ask why...after 20 mins of waiting and feeling quite anxious they came back and told me they had stopped all transactions on my account because of suspicious activities...apparently an attempted transaction of £732 from my debit card. This has obviously worried me because someone has had access to my card number. Now I have recently in the last week bouht a couple things of Ebay using Paypal...however I was under the impression this was safe to do so. How safe is the internet really to carry out such transactions??
The other thing was they told me to be vigilant of anyone swiping my card twice...especially if you can't see the machine as this is a way of storing your card number. Apparently in the UK there has been a spate of this happening at Total garages (not sure of the link).
Are there any special measures to ensure complete safety using a cc online?

I've never had any problems with paypal. I only keep $100 or less in my account at any one time.

Actually I use them too, I just put it there for info, but I never keep money in it, just transfer into it before buying something.
