Huckabee granted clemency to suspect in 4 cops killed
Maurice Clemmons, 37, now of Tacoma, Washington, is a suspect in the murder of 4 Lakewood (Washington) police officers at a coffee shop this morning.
“Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protests of prosecutors,” the Seattle Times reported.
He just left jail on a pending charge of second-degree rape of a child.
“Clemmons’ criminal history includes at least five felony convictions in Arkansas and at least eight felony charges in Washington. The record also stands out for the number of times he has been released from custody despite questions about the danger he posed,” the Seattle Times reported.
At this point, Clemmons is wanted for questioning.

Doesn't that headline imply that Huckabee granted clemency to someone AFTER they were suspected of killing police officers, and not many years earlier on an unrelated charge?

my guess is that huckabee is no longer a contender.
Don't forget, it was Algore during the 1988 primaries (not Bush 41) who exposed Dukakis as being soft on crime and brought up Willie Horton. Doing that apparently vaulted Dukakis to the nomination.
But yeah, a Republican would become instant toast for doing what Huckabee did.
