Mamdani may normalize things that were always taboo even for Dems and pave the way for people like AOC and Tlaib to become national Dem leaders.

Given the number of people who reflexively vote Dem, that's too great a risk.

I think we should rather hope for rational people to control both parties and let the ideas be the separation.

Ok. Not sure why anyone would trust a liberal to prognosticate what Trump would do to Republicans. The "formally referred to as" GOP culted themselves, liberals might as well have been on an Alaskan cruise for the last 10 years. Meanwhile y'all called Hillary Clinton a Marxist and chanted on the rooftops to lock her in prison. It doesn't really matter the ideology, it only mattered which team your politician is representing.

I would echo your yearning for a return to rational debate. That would be nice, but there's no clear path to that without the destruction of the republican party.

I'm not happy about what's going to happen to New York, but the worse it gets, the more they will wake TF up.

I find it a lot better for the spirit and mind to notice signs of pending danger and work to prevent that danger from happening, as opposed to the method you describe of seeing the danger and wishing the danger will harm others so they learn their lesson.
