Last month's job report was a rather poor one. Obama's record on job creation has been weak. I think he's done some good things, certainly, but 4.2 years into his administration that the real unemployment rate (taking into account people who have given up looking for work) is still probably well over 10%.

Obviously, President Obama is not a socialist, but i ...[text shortened]... obs performance is the last thing I'd point to if you're interested in showing his success.
Obama can't be a pure socialist, in the political arena he is in. His power is limited by a Constitution, which he opposes whenever it inconveniences his intentions. On the other hand, if you examine his roots, who were his mentors, his educators, his cronies when his work started, he is as socialist as any politician in the US.

I've been hearing a lot from the GOP these past 5 years that President Obama was a Socialist, born in Kenya who is hell bent on destroying America's capitalistic system. Well...I think the "birther" thing has simmered down. But if Obama is a Socialist, why does the unemployment rate continue to drop, the economy continue to heal, and why are America's stock market's at or near all time highs???

Under socialism there can be no unemployment, so the unemployment getting less sort of makes the rest of your post... well... crap, really.

Obama's budget proposals contain cuts to social security and medicare.

If the republicans like it, how can you call him a socialist?

The economy isn't really doing much better. The recent jobs report was not good. The stock market was propped up by The Working Group on Financial Markets to regain confidence in it. The stock market goes up even when bad news should drive it down. It must be fixed.

There might be some modest improvements in the economy because stock holders feel richer and might spend more as a result. I don't see this continuing forever though. A correction seems overdue to me, but I guess that depends on the plunge protection team and how much rigging they intend to do.

Has there ever been a society with zero unemployment?

We both know that there are socialists in both parties.

Well no, not in reality. What socialists do is to stop counting, or change the method of the count.

Sure, but Obama is a lot like a republican in reality.
Sometimes I think the media likes to fool people into saying Obama is a socialist so people reject the reality that he is more like a republican.

No doubt. He and GW both spoke in glowing terms about markets and liberty, but neither really believed it.

I think the lower limit is about 3% unemployment -- i.e., because of natural transient behavior and other issues. Historically, full employment was considered at about 5% unemployment (without massive government intervention) but that was blown away under the Presidency of the Great Bill Clinton.

Fascism is indistinguishable from socialism, except for the basic details. Fascism allows for the nominal private ownership of the means of production, but closely marries business to government.

You should try it over here. In Ireland we have 14% unemployment.

Where you are is a paradise compared to that.

I'm looking for work for the last 2 years.
I'd rather be in the land of opportunity anytime.

Thank God for what you have. Think of others worse off.

I know I'm lucky though, there are lots of people in the world
more worse off than me.
What kind of writing do you do?

The facists hate the socialists.
