Just had a thought from reading a comment about Bush in the spiritual thread asking if Bush is stupid what are the people that voted for him..
Well got me thinking, aside from the fact he rigged the voting, if everyone got sick of the games and machinations of power hungry polititians and no-one turned out to the polls to vote for anyone then what would happen?
Would countries grind to a halt?
Is there a fall back plan?
Could it ever happen?

However, the problem lies with the mass populace who have no power/money at stake in regards to the voting outcome. Therefore, you tend to have poor voter participation overall. I think this is why there is such a drive to get people to vote. Perhaps greater participation in the politics helps hide the fact that our governments are driven by the almighty dollar rather than the average Joe? Really, the major political parties are in and of themselves an interest group. They each have backs to scratch as well as their own and the average Joe can fend for himself. The major difference I see between political parties is how money and power shifts and flows.
