Much like an undertaker can lay the best of men to rest are you suggesting that as a potential eidetiker I could be burying my reputation beneath a vivid flourish of colourful verbiage?

No, but being one myself I know that visual overstimulation can be disastrous.

I'm not sure if this qualifies but I used to stare at 100 watt light bulbs until I would hold an image of it but it would then morph into an intense mini sun that would travel across my field of vision eventually moving off of its own volition.

I get the visual overstimulation, but don't have the eidetic memory - in fact, my visual memory and ability to visualize is a complete catastrophe. So be glad the overstimulation has a positive counterpart in your case. Should be useful in chess.

That might be a bit too restrictive, but some people use "blinkers" and/or a peaked cap to reduce the visual input.
