I came across the following article and I just have to ask... what the Hell are people thinking?
In January, the Design Review Board of Snohomish, Wash., rejected the mural planned for the side of the BBQ Shack restaurant, in part, reported the owner, because its five pink pigs were naked. [Seattle Post-Intelligencer-AP, 12-30-04]
The question is, what is indecent. Are naked pigs really something we as a society should be concerned about. Now undulating oiled up naked pigs engaging in various carnal acts would be a problem. However, Snohomish is out there a ways and maybe naked pig lust is a real problem to contend with. How far should we go to police and protect people from images or words that are "offensive"? Should the occasional nipple really shock us? Where does the line get drawn between art and indecency?

It used to be so easy. Behavior like the kind you've described belonged east of the Cascade Mountains. If they've pushed the battle line this close to Seattle, Washington will soon be a red state.

Take your freedom of speech for granted and someone will take it away.
Oh gracious and goodness. Where is paul the wookie when we need him. He lives there, but I have not seen him on rhp since his auto accident.
I guess there are two parts to this. One is the amusing aspect of people caught in a dilemma. You see, the ordinance is against the size and location of the advert. Isn't it? Snohomish lives off of "good taste" OF the "rich" from Seattle, and like the commie party elite everywhere, they are real snobs. That is pretty much the definition of "Elites". Isn't it. Well, anyroad, it isn't a good thing to offend the superior sensibilities of the ruling elite. Is it?
I have not gone to the site, but I did see Chris Matthews defending the city ordinance because the owner of the business seems to be a redneck, and the "majority" certainly has the right of censor.
So with a whole bunch of irony. The posters here are blaming the "right" wing nuts when this time it seems to be the 'left' wing nuts who are doing the censoring.
Now I better go read a couple of accounts so I will know if Matthews was full of his normal level of excess fecal matter.
Back in a minute or so.
<edit> I'm back.
The genesis goes back a few months.

Search for the second item on the docket. Then with a little imagination, carry forward to the current brew-haa-haa.
Actually pretty boring except that people here must learn to see that what at first seems to be "right wing facists" turn out to be "left wing facists". Ahem.

Still, my concern is not really this issue but indecency in general.
