I'd like to see similar pressure brought on Israel to give up its nukes so that Iran would not have an excuse (or at least one less) to have these weapons.

but I think an agreement could be reached if Iran would refrain from the possibilities to develop nuclear weapons, improve the human rights situation and implement basic democratic reforms. At the same time ALL the major world powers, the US, UK, France, Germany, Russia and China, and the regional powers, should give garantees for Irans safety.
How about throwing some extra conditions in regarding the internal affairs of Iran? And the UN Charter already requires all countries to "peaceably settle disputes" why would UN member states have to "guarantee" Iran's safety IF Iran did X,Y and Z? Aren't they already required to by that Treaty?
