They just agreed to open up the Straights of Hormuz before Trump unleashed hell on Earth on them.

That and Trump ordered the US to cease fire for a week and a half.

Iran's proposal was said to be workable by Trump. This is a major concession by Trump. Stop trying to spin this as a victory by Trump. Did you read Iran's 10 point proposal?

No, he said he'd give them 10 days to make up their mind. They did. They said OK we give.

Open the straight that was already open before? Good negotiating.

Did you read the whole plan? It's 10x worse for the US than what Obama got 10 years ago.

Trumps is negotiating a US surrender.

It seems to have been forgotten by the MAGA crowd that the original stated objective of this war—such as it was—was Iran's "unconditional surrender." That's what Trump said. And something like $200 billion was burned through by the US military in the first 4 weeks of combat in order to destroy Iranian assets worth at best half as much.

There has been no change in the Iranian government's attitude, and it's still a hard-line theocracy. Worse, the guys in charge in Iran now are much younger, and their hold on power seems more secure now than it was before the bombing started because a patriotic fervor has naturally been aroused in the general population.

Iran has said all along that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened when the bombing stops. Thankfully the bombing has stopped, if only for a brief while.

Iran's leadership knows that time is against Trump, because this absurd war he was goaded into by Israel is extremely unpopular in the US. The leadership also knows not to trust anything Trump says, because he blusters all the time, and also negotiates in bad faith. Frankly, Iran has no incentive whatsoever to give in to anything Trump demands.

So yeah, where do we stand? A strait that had been open before the bombing started is now open again—for a while at least. No regime change. No progress on any front. Oil-producing infrastructure throughout the Middle East is decimated, the last scraps of goodwill our NATO allies may have still had after Trump's threats to annex Greenland is shot to hell, and Republicans in Congress are talking about kicking another 300,000 Americans off their health insurance to pay for a failed war. "America first" indeed...?

The Art of the Steal: Iran cashes in 1 million dollars for each ship which passes the strait. Six weeks ago, it was free passage. Now that's a great deal -- Iran gets to rebuild its infrastructure -- at the world's expense.

How much is Trump spending to rebuild America's infrastructure? Oh yeah, I fergot -- he wants billions for the military, America can't afford domestic health care or child care ...

According to the statement, the United States has agreed to a 10-point proposal that fundamentally commits Washington to:

No new aggression against Iran
Continued Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz
Acceptance of enrichment
Removal of all primary sanctions
Removal of all secondary sanctions
Termination of all UN Security Council resolutions
Termination of all Board of Governors resolutions
Payment of compensation to Iran
Withdrawal of US combat forces from the region
Cessation of war on all fronts, including against the heroic Islamic Resistance of Lebanon

Not that I expect Trump to honor the agreement. He keeps bombing Iran in the middle of negotiations. I would have to be a fool to trust him and so would Iran, so they are prepared for another betrayal by the self proclaimed stable genius.

This will temporarily bring down the price of oil and allow Trump to put troops on the ground while letting Israel violate the cease fire as they always do. They are probably running out of targets to bomb in Iran so they are letting Israel do the few that are left.

Trump will pretend he cannot control Israel. But that is complete BS since they get most of their military weaponry from us.

Israel is a welfare nation. They take and never give back.

Oops—strait is closed again.

Because Israel.

Just imagine what that $200 billion—and counting—could have done for the rotting infrastructure in the US. All the threats to bomb every bridge in Iran, and meanwhile thousands of bridges in the US have been bombed by the ravages of time.

When you're done salaaming before the shriveled salami of your orange messiah, do take a breath and keep a weather eye out for that "unconditional surrender" that was the initial objective of this illegal war.

It bears repeating: Iran had always declared itself amenable to opening the strait provided the bombing stopped. The bombing did stop, and lo: the strait opened. Now Israel has gone and done something, and the strait is closed again to oil traffic.

I believe it was said by Suzianne somewhere in the dank catacombs of this forum that, to win, all Iran had to do was not lose.

Iran fired missiles at Israel after the cease-fire agreement.
So Israel responded. Israel has no interest in any Strait business.
