If you consider the context of those texts, the audience, the time when it was written, etc, you'll see it wasn't really something you could call delusional, or anything like that.
Not to mention, this doesn't have anything to do with the claims by the iranian clerics, most religious people I know are pretty well-informed about the causes of natural disasters.
